Default F&*%ing centerlock's - now appreciate Orthojoe's Avatar

I swapped my OEM GT3 (991) wheels for 19 inch forgelines tonight (with RE71's mounted - also per Orthojoes's excellent track thread). I bought the Rennline safejack jackstands and frankly figured learning to set the car up with those would take longer than swapping out the wheels. I also changed out the lower control arm bolts on both rears. And again, thought that would take longer than swapping the wheels.

I was wrong. Getting the spring loaded locking nut to pop back out and sit flush took forever. I torqued, backed off, re-torqued - and pushed the nut in and out, but the nut would not pop out flush. I fought each wheel - and honestly I do not know what ultimately caused the nut to pop out properly. When it finally happened on each wheel, I just felt lucky. Any advice or tricks?

After that adventure, swapping out for 5 lugs sure seems appealing.

Just jiggle the lock nut a bit with the tool, it pops right out pretty quickly!

Thx Mech33, but what tool are you referring to? I was just pushing it in with my finger and letting it pop back out. But, usually, it would not pop out until I re-torqued again and I would pull the centerlock took off and see it siting flush.

The tool should be in the same container where the centerlock socket is located. That tool makes it easy for the lock to pop out.

Centerlocks SUUUCK! LOL

All you need to do is put something in the lock mechanism that enables you to twist it. Jiggle back and forth and it will pop out. Takes almost no force.

If you don't have the little tool handy, a 1/2" drive socket extension also works well. Just twist and wiggle the locking mechanism a bit and it will pop right out.

I found a bolt that threads into the center hole, then I use that to wriggle and pop it out.

Fortunately, the rest of the care barely makes up for the royal PITA of the center lock wheels. And stupid calipers with bolts & brackets. Barely.

This still isn't an option for the 991 right?

I wonder why this is. You can get center lock hubs on a GTS. Can't you put GTS hubs on a GT3? Isn't that how the 997 conversion works?

There's a reason I have never tried changing my CLs myself!! I know I should know how to do it and get the necessary tools in case of an emergency but nope!!
