Warranty brake work on 991.1 GT3
Hi everyone,
New member here. Just bought a 991.1 GT3 from Porsche Fort Meyers. It turns out that the car was tracked harder than described by the salesman. It was apparently "it was tracked a few times at Porsche track events." Just started pulling the calipers off to do a little custom paint on them and turns out a sensor wire was cut and my pistons were falling apart along with the pads being fried. The shop doing the custom work said: "It was unsafe to drive." Now Porsche is giving me a hard time with the warranty work because it was previously tracked, but the car is unsafe to drive and was tracked at Porsche events allegedly. Anyone have any experience with a similar issue regarding warranty.

What is the MY of the car?

Brakes are a wear item like tires and oil. Buyer beware. This is a dealer issue. They should have e inspected the brakes when they took the car it. The cracked piston pucks are well known, and paid under warranty to many owners.

First thing to comes to mind is wether the car is CPO. How long after purchase did you find out about the brakes? Dealer should step up and make it right for you. I bought my '15 CPO and I picked the car up I realized that the car did not have the tires that it originally came with. The dealer put on brand new cup2 after I pointed out the tires were not N rated. Some dealers will try to pull stuff like this so best thing to do is to go directly to the gm. Hope you get it sorted out and end up with brand new brakes.

This is a straight up dealer issue. The dealer sold you a car with brakes that were "unsafe to drive", as such they should cover this under warranty. Escalate immediately!! Even if a car isn't CPO'ed the dealer has an obligation to sell you a car with brakes in good condition.

WOW....!!! Yes Porsche can and will void warranty on a car that is tracked. I have fought them twice before. Remember the warranty is with Porsche not the dealer...however the dealer totally mislead you. If the car was CPO'd then you have a great chance of getting new brakes...if not...have a good fight.
Porsche with there marketing will have you believe you can track the car with no issues..but not true...Porsche and dealers will fit you and void warranty if the car is tracked.
If the dealer does not step up and go to bat for you...you should call PCNA in Atalanta and file a grievance against the dealer for misrepresentation and keep at PCNA about some even if little help with the brakes. However its not PNCA's fault for this...this is normal brake wear at the track...but..again, the dealer totally misrepresented the car. I hope you have everything in writing for proof.
Good luck....and keep us informed on what happens

You don't say whether the original factory warranty is still in effect. Unless it was a high mileage, very early 2014 it should be, and even then an early 2014 would have received the extended Porsche 5 year 100K mile warranty because it would surely have been an engine replacement car.
I'll have to disagree with mdrums here. Unless something changed with later 991.1 GT3 models there is no prohibition on track use. In fact, my 2014 GT3 came with a factory supplement which states clearly that the warranty is valid for tracked cars as long as certain enhanced service procedures are followed. For brakes these basically include more frequent inspections for wear and damage. Your dealer shouldn't be giving you a hard time for warranty purposes just because the car was tracked, not to mention the fact that they shouldn't have sold you a car with bad brakes in the first place. They need to make this right for you. Good luck.

For the pucks, yes it should be a warranty claim. Pads no, that is a wear item. Assuming you bought the car as is without a CPO then it should just be the pucks they should warranty. As stated the GT3 is covered even after track use. I had the service department ask if I was tracking the car when I had a particular issue, I was, and the response was good, you should be and no worries it's still covered.
