Be sure to order Voice Control
It's a free option and fills the gaps that CarPlay misses.
Learned this when ordering my Macan GTS. Brings full voice control to the PCM

I have a 991.2 4s cab received last December and when I press the voice control on the side indicator it shows that the command isn't recognized? Is there a way to activate the voice control?

Have it on my .1, and I find it brilliant. I even programmed it to say "go home" and it will take me back from a location I'm not familiar with. All I do is press the voice control command and say "home" and it takes me right there. No need to fiddle around with Google maps nor PCM nav.

Porsche openly admits their Voice Control option doesn't work very well - that's why it's free.
In fact, dealers aren't even capable of ordering Voice Control for inventory in PVMS. It can only be ordered as a KF car. Dealers are supposed to inform their client that VC is still in the beta stage and that it's likely to give the client issues. if the client still wants it anyway, they can order it and there's no charge. You'll never find a car in inventory with VC unless it was a customer/KF cancellation.
If you've had no issues with VC in your car, then you're in the minority. Porsche knows how to build awesome sports cars, but they sometimes lag a little behind with their silicon valley-based technology. The rollout of Connect Plus in the 991.2 and the 718 last year was a perfect example of that.

It's very disappointing that Porsche didn't go with Android Auto - Google Voice is fantatic, I never have to type on my phone just dictate everything including very different names.
Apple is still years behind and Porsche's VC is even further behind that.
