991.2 Manual vs 997.2 Manual
I have a 991.2 GT3 coming in spring with the build locking in soon. I have currently specced PDK but am curious about everyone's experience with the manual. I have driven the GT4 which felt very similar to my 991.1 C2S and GTS. I also had a 997.2 GT3 which is clearly very different from a clutch and gearbox perspective. I am hoping the new GT3 does not feel as "soft" as the 997 turbo. Given those points of comparison, what would I expect from the new GT3 MT?

The clutch in the .2 GT3 is very light (may be boosted), but has much better feel and easier modulation than previous Porsche boosted clutches (worst to use was 996TT).

The .2 GT3 clutch is light. It has good feel and it is easy to modulate though. I would say its 25 percent lighter than the GT4 clutch and about the same feel when modulating. Overall the clutch and stick work well together and feel great. The clutch could be slightly stiffer, but I prefer that over being artificial stiff.

There are a bunch of these for sale. I would hold out for a perfect one. I know my dealer pays less money for cars that have been tracked. I would rather have a dealer serviced car than an owner serviced one. The competence of the owner is not verifiable or warrantied.

I couldn't agree with Drdonger more. I was concerned that the 991.2 Gt3 clutch would be too light. Once you get in without starting the car the clutch is super light. I was very disappointed at first. Coming from a Gt4, I felt that was the best weighted clutch along with shifting transmission. However, the Gt3 clutch and shifting works very well when you get going. I almost seem to forget that the clutch is light. I personally prefer the GT4 clutch feel a tad more but I think it really comes down to preference. The lot boy at Porsche drove a few of them and before I got to drive mine he said it was preference since it worked well. I couldn't agree more.
I also had a 997.1 911, The clutch was stiffer compared to the Gt4 and Gt3 and the I felt the engagement points was a little trickier. I may be a ****ty driver as I would occasionally stall the car. I never stalled the Gt4.

I'm in the same boat as the OP -- got my order in for a June build, but still changeable. I ordered PDK, but now giving serious pause and considering changing to a manual. As fantastic as the PDK is, I do sometimes find myself missing the more engaging driving experience of a manual. Can any new owners weigh in further on the subject? Any thoughts greatly appreciated....

Own a 997.2 GT3 and driven GT4 multiple times. The GT4 clutch and shifter is light years ahead of the 997 GT3. Once you drive them back to back, you feel the GT4 clutch has the perfect weight. Once you get back to the 997 you feel like you are pressing 200lbs and you stepped back into the stone age. But I still prefer the heavy 997 clutch once you get used to it. As for 991.2 GT3, for sure it will be similar to the GT4 and if you like heavy and stiff, 997 is the way to go.

picked up my 6 speed manual GT3 last week in Germany. Drove it for a few hundred miles and absolutely love it! Clutch is perfect, you can modulate it nicely, shifter super precise, love it to shift leisurely from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th...car pulls nicely and I feel in control again :-) no reason for me now to pick up a 997 GT3 (RS) to take care of the manual itch. Let's face it, this is a perfect combo.. 4 liters, 500 hp, 9000 rpm and manual! For me one of the best Porsches out there. For heavy track duty I definitely would pick PDK. There you need it, concentrate on breaking, turn in etc., the super fast shifts let you really concentrate on improving yourself, the race line and get more confident

Versus a 997 GT3, clutch pedal is very (very) light as others have said. The release zone is also more forgiving and progressive. Feels a bit disconnected coming from the 997 (where you can feel exactly when the clutch starts to bite...and the car "judders" in 1st). In the 991.2 you barely feel the release point but the engagement is so progressive it doesn't matter. It is certainly makes the car more usable around town.
Shifter is smoother, less clicky to get into gear. Possibly shorter throw. Doesn't hesitate to go into 3rd (or 2nd) like many 997 GT3s. I don't worry about ending up in the wrong gear during spirited driving.
For me the shifter is a tangible improvement (its sublime really), the clutch is just different. Some will argue it takes some of the character out of the car. Personally I prefer the weighting of the 997 GT3 clutch pedal.

The 997 clutch was probably a bit heavier than it needed to be. That said, it was well matched to the 997 gearbox which was also more agricultural in feel than it should have been. By contrast, the 991 clutch is far lighter, nicely weighted and well matched to the feel of the new 6 speed gearbox.
Shifting the New GT3 is effortless and subliminal as it should be in a well engineered sports car. The addition of the rev matching function is kind of spooky and makes the car feel almost semi autonomous. I learned to heel and toe 25 years ago and enjoy doing it for myself when so inspired. I have never owned a GT3 with PDK, so I can’t compare the level of engagement or absence thereof when allowing the car to select gears for the driver.
I would recommend a manual GT3 to anyone who enjoys maximum involvement with the car. That said, I would always choose a sequential gearbox for the track where maximum performance and consistent gearchanges are necessary.

Rev matching only happens when turned on via the sport button. I have had 997.2 GT3 and GT4 prior to 991.2GT3 I prefer the 991.2 997 too heavy clutch. weight of new GT3 perfect and in no way overboasted or too light.
