Install new N2 version Cup 2 Tires on 991.1 GT3RS?
Hi all,
I was shopping for new Cup 2s for the 991.1 RS, and found that the N2 version is now available.
The N2 is of course the newest spec, and I would typically go with the newest evolution. However, I believe the newer N2 compound was developed for the new GT2RS and its higher mechanical grip levels (though in a different size: 265/35R20 and 325/30R21).
Part of the reason for my hesitance is this feedback from Preuninger:
The tire used on the 918 was the "N0" spec Pilot Sport Cup 2, and Porsche worked with Michelin to develop two further variants—the N1 for the 991.1 GT3 RS, and the N2 for the GT2 RS. Each tire gets its own compound and construction to "to extract the maximum performance out of the car," according to Preuninger. Essentially, the GT2 RS generates more mechanical grip than the 918 Spyder and 991.1 GT3 RS, despite the fact that all have Pilot Spot Cup 2s of the exact same size. That makes a huge difference on track.

But maybe this N2 in GT3RS sizing is designed for the GT3 RS...? Or is it? Very confusing!
That being said, would folks here recommend the N1 or N2 version?
Has anyone used the N2 on the GT3 RS, and do you have any feedback on the differences?
Also, the price difference is negligible (~10%):
$460 / $491 (front / rear) - Cup 2 N1 spec ($1,903)
$493 / $552 (front / rear) - Cup 2 N2 spec ($2,091)

I'd try the N2. Likely more grip, maybe slightly stiffer construction but I don't recall the 2RS having that much more downforce than the 3RS.
AP wouldn't be selling Michelins like that unless they're a big part of unlocking significant additional speed and time.

The question I want answered from Michelin is as simple as this:
Is the N2 a softer compound than the N1?
Or is it the case that the GT2RS just leans on the tyre more and generates more heat, and the the N2 is actually a harder compound.
(hoping it’s softer!)
It will also also be very interesting to see the performance of the new Dunlop Sport Race.

If you take example of 991.1Gt3 and .2 where you have already cars on the tracks with two different tire models it is obvious that the latest one must have more grip which mostly was achieved by using softer compound. Track times nowadays is 80% tire technology 20% car development .

So is the whole reason I cannot buy a N1 in regular GT3 sizing (245/305) because they are only made for the RS and GT2? I have been searching a lot with no luck so I could totally see that being the case but then I find this press release that states otherwise...

So, where the hell can we buy these tires?? If anyone here has had luck purchasing N1 in the 245/305 sizes please let us all know here where. Thanks!

If I remember correctly:
N0: 918
N1: 991.1 GT3 RS (Better grip then N0 but also stronger for the heavy rear load)
N2: 991 GT2 RS and I assume the 991.2 GT3RS
I'm guessing that you should look for the tire that is on the 991.2 GT3 in its latest N-version

I plan on burning off the N1s on my RS as quickly as possible, then replacing with N2. Just like Porsches, tire technology is on the march quite quickly. Probably the easiest modification on a car these days to lower lap times.

Can you get the N2 for the .1 GT3? I checked TireRack for 2015 or 2018 GT3 and they only have the N1.
