Porsche car charger question
This may be stupid, but I have the new car charger (plugs into cigarette lighter) is there a better place to run it outside to the extension cord. I am guessing just the door?

I run the cord under the door - no problems so far…

For anyone thinking of buying one, I recommending getting a CTEK rather than the Porsche one. They make the Porsche ones so you get the same or better quality at a lower price.
The Porsche one is just about the most basic available. I got a more advanced one with some different modes on it. It came with a connector that you permanently connect to the battery. Then it's easy to just plug it into that rather than running a wire into the cabin.
Looks like their lineup has changed since I bought one a few years ago, but from what I can tell I've got the equivalent of the MXS 7.0.

When I put my car away for the winter, I pull out the plug, hang it just outside the plastic cover thing that covers the battery and other stuff there, and then run the cord out where the wipers are. No door seals to worry about. No window left open. No wondering whether the car might shut off the socket for some reason.
I put a towel on the fender where the cord hangs over because I'm paranoid.

Great info. To further this discussion:
1. What specific model # of CTEK do people recommend, and why?
2. If the car is not "put away for the winter" and can be driven year round, under what circumstances should a battery tender be necessary. Meaning, how frequent (or infrequent) occasions of driving the car necessitate the need/benefit of a battery tender.

The 7002 comes with several accessories including an adaptor which connects directly to the battery and allows you to plug into the pigtail from the charger. My GT3 charger is mounted to the ceiling/rafters in my garage and I just pull in and plug up. I find this more convenient than plugging into the cigarette lighter, and the charger/power cord are out of the way. If you do want to plug into the 12V socket, that adaptor is available for about $15.

That's clever! I think there's an open socket where my garage door opener is plugged in. I should set up something similar so the wire doesn't hang over the fender.

In my case, I cover the car so the cord needs to be long enough to run under the edge of the cover, over the fender, and then to the battery. And, yes, I'm also paranoid so like you I cover the fender with a towel.
