I think it's inevitable, but I'm extremely surprised that it might happen so soon. Still so much love for the NA cars amongst Porsche's customer base.

I don't see them shelving a new/heavily revised 4l engine after only half a gen. BUT, Euro emissions rules and those in other countries will make it increasingly difficult to build such cars, so it isn't the 992.1 then it won't be long after.

Hell at the rate the self-driven golf carts, er... electric cars... are gaining ground, I'll eventually be happy with an FI car that I can actually drive myself. Just not yet.

This is fake news. Autocar is always full of s***. No way Porsche develops a brand new 4.0 and then shelves it after a single GT iteration. No way. Still another 5-7 years easy left for NA halo cars from Porsche, if not more.

I'm not sure I believe it, not just yet. My gut tells me after the 992 gen.

Maybe this means Porsche will pump out some serious 2018-2019 GT3 allocations to give that new 4.0L engine some legs from the R&D dollars.

Actually, I was referring to hold on to them and enjoy them as an era may be coming to an end, like 993.
For me cars are about enjoying kinetic art, not investments.
If they feel and drive less special in the future then these NA GT3s are to be savored and enjoyed like a fine wine...and when the bottle is gone...
I drive my 16M....I drive my Speciale...

This^^^^

At some point Porsche will no longer offer a naturally aspirated engine. 10 years from now? 25 years? But I feel like the 992 will get another round of NA GT3's.

When they do switch, they will lose some of the character but it will come with a huge bump in performance. I've got to imagine a GT3 easily with the new GT2RS level of performance.

It feels like fake news to me. No reason why Porsche wont make another generation of NA cars. Too much profit. Too much demand.

It's a ridiculous long shot, but wouldn't it be something if they stopped certifying NA GT cars for EU but continued for a cycle for the NA market. It would be a rare day that we got the good stuff and the EU could only look on longingly.

It seems strange that this engine wouldn’t have a much stronger run than about a year and change. I hope this is just nonsense, but wow do they say it with conviction. Lol
long live NA!!

Exactly. Especially with Diesel-gate still looming. Porsche needs to make that cheddar while the cheese is still fresh $$

Not going to happen. I'll simply say, if it is not the NA engine revving to 9K rpms, then what exactly separates the GT3 from the rest of the 911 line.
