GT4 to 991 GT3 Manual, regrets? Thoughts?
I've got an opportunity to buy a manual 2018 GT3 optioned pretty closely to what I would order, with 3k and like-new throughout; no track time and clean overrev report. I'm toying with the idea of trading my 4k mile GT4. I can buy the GT3 right and get a very fair trade value for the GT4. I absolutely love the GT4 but having been on a spirited drive last weekend with a number of GT3's really underscored the difference in power, and my GT4 is lightly optioned with basic seats and a few other things that I now wish I had. The GT3 has LWB's, lift, and CCB's.
I'm sure this has been a common move around here, and I'd love to hear thoughts and comparison of the two cars, and if there's anything you liked better about the GT4. I can't imagine anyone regrets making the move to the GT3, but comments would be welcome. I'm not an impulsive buyer, but I'm probably going to have to make a quick decision on this and want to explore all the angles.

I did the switch beginning this year. GT3 manual is very similar. Clutch is lighter than the gt4 which is odd for a car that has more power. Power is biggest difference but this alone is huge as gt4 needs more power. Inside it will be very similar as there is a lot of similar parts between both. Ie. cup holders. Steering wheel. Shifter. Etc.. I still think handling for most driving is more balanced in the gt4 due to mid engine. It is way easier to drive at the limit than the gt3. GT3 is better at the limit but not as easy to modulate. No regrets with the change for me plus I was able to get PTS which I could not on my gt4.

No looking back. GT4 is a great car.
.2 Manual is on a whole different level. The engine is worth the $$ to upgrade. This may be the best Manual, NA sports car period.

I have both and will be selling my GT4. Gt4 is a great balanced car as you know it. The GT3 is a large jump because of the engine- intoxicating - with a manual transmission there is no stronger connection between man and machine (that I know of). The midrange power is where the GT4 is lacking and where the GT3 excels. I upgraded the exhaust- DUNDON. Wow! This car is more exciting than my 458 Spyder. Do it. And do it now!

I searched the threads and apologize for starting another one to add to the other dozen that already exist!
I just drove the GT3 and my mind is pretty much made up to proceed. I'm surprised at how light the clutch is on the GT3, and what's the reason behind that? I've owned quite a few older 911's, and the seating position is just so different, and perfect, compared to anything else. The power is awesome but not to the point to where you can't begin to exploit it on the street. The ride quality wasn't that much firmer than the GT4's, which was one of my concerns. The gearbox is every bit as sweet, but the gear spacing makes more sense. Having 9k revs to play with still lets you hold it in a gear and use all of it, which is actually one of the benefits of the GT4's wide gearing.
It might seem kind of silly but it's nice to have a rear camera and dual-zone climate control, neither of which I have on the GT4. My GT4 has just the basic climate control system, and I'm constantly screwing around with it trying to keep the temp constant in the car.
I think the GT4 is actually a prettier sports car (sorry!) but the GT3 has so much more presence to the stance. I'm excited but will be a little sad to let go of the GT4. The GT3 is obviously brilliant, but driving it also made me realize what an unbelievable sports car the GT4 is.

When you look back, do you more regret the risks you took? Or the ones you didn't take? Life is short, drive faster...

...I’m still trying to decide....
there’s NOTHING like the balance of the mid engine layout of the GT4..... NOTHING. But the car is down on power.
the GT3 (dot 2 touring) is all about the engine. There’s NOTHING like the 9k spine tingling redline...
other than the balance, the GT4 sounds better out of the box (to me) but with a Center muffler delete (Akrapovic) the GT3 is damn near perfect...
I can’t decide so I keep both...
...I did put more KM’s on the GT3 however... maybe it’s because of the novelty... I get back into the 981 and I’m reminded of its strengths after banging off 9k shifts in the touring.
Why can’t they put the 991 engine in the 718?.... I’d buy two of those cars...
