Dumb question: If Porsche says it’s important to lower before switching the car Off, then why not lower it automatically when the car is switched off?

Liability concerns. Same reason our CAB tops are not remotely operated by the FOB as they are in ROW. Could you imagine if someone's pet dog got crushed somehow? Or something else was broken. Look at how many Warnings, Cautions and notes are in our manuals now.....written by lawyers. Don't breath the exhaust - you might die (that is in there although not as colorful)

Porsche needed to have manual control of the lift system.

Reading the posted page of the manual, it states "Risk of damage through uncontrolled lowering of the front axle at engine standstill".

This gives me the impression that Porsche is warning about the front end coming down and hitting something once the engine is off, rather the the system itself being damaged by being left in the up position.

Wanted to revisit this because I just picked up a 16 RS with Front Axle Lift. At a stand still in my garage the lift is currently activated. When I hit the button again to have the lift go down, it won't. The dash says, "Front axle lift system not available". Is the only way to lower it in a standstill is to press the button again?

How does FAL function while driving below the ~35mph threshold speed?

My experience is that you can't lower the FAL without the engine running. I always try to remember to lower the FAL before shutting off the engine. I suspect (but have no proof) that leaving FAL in the up position for a long time can't be a good thing.

Doors closed, engine on - is what I found was needed to lower it...
