GT2RS learnings from recent Stuttgart trip

Congrats on the upcoming car and for sharing info with us. I did want to ask about the part that confused me a bit...first you said that you were told that there will NOT be a "new GT4 or Cayman RS" in the first part of the bullet but then you go on to say that you were told that there will be both a "Clubsport" and "GT4" version as in the past. So does that mean that you were told that there will be a GT4 coming out?
Parts in blue: there will not be a street [GT4 or Cayman] RS, meaning no street GT4RS or Cayman RS. Street 718 Cayman GT4 is a given since we've all seen the spy shots.
Parts in red: was referring to the track-only Cayman GT4 Clubsport and maybe a even hotter version to compete with the M4 GT4 , Mclaren GT4, in the "GT4" class.
OP please shine some light on this.

They took my phone for the factory tours. They said to make sure not to photograph employees at Exclusive but that it was OK to photograph the cars and options. They prohibited photos from the parking lots though which was a bummer because there were some very cool PTS colors parked outside.

Just taking a guess:

Guy from Porsche said, "We will have a base Clubsport race car and a Clubsport GT4 race car for the 2019 race season that is much more capable than the current Clubsport GT4 MR."
I said, "Does that mean there will be a new 718 GT4 street car in 2018 in order to homologate the race car?" Also, "Will it be NA or FI?
Right? Inquiring minds want to know!
He said "No plans for a new GT4 street car in 2018"
I said "How will you guys homologate the race car? Will you use the old GT4? Will it be some kind of an RS variant of the old car with the 4.0 picking up where the old GT4 left off? Will Manthey handle final assembly?"
He said cryptically, "We're using a new platform, I can't say anything more about the car..."
So I'm not exactly sure what this means. It could mean there is a new 718 based GT4 that will be announced in late 2018 but released in 2019 alongside the race car. It could mean that the race car is homologated on the base 718 Cayman and not a GT4 Cayman. While I think this is a long shot... maybe the next GT4 car will be 911 based? Using a 911 platform car for GT4 would make sense against the McLaren 570, Audi R8 and AMG GT R which are all essentially super cars detuned for GT4 whereas the Camero, Mustang and Cayman are essentially sports cars tuned up. Of note the R8 GT4 at $250K is the same price as the 2016 GT4 Cayman MR. The AMG GT R GT4 is closer to $200K and includes a sequential race transmission, adjustable race ABS, etc. I don't know the answer. I just found it odd that they would release a race car without a corresponding street car.
I assume there is or there will be a street car that used to homologate the next Clubsport and GT4 race car. I was just thrown off by the "not in 2018" comment.

No problem at all. My opinions have been developed over time from other car forums outside of rennlist that are focused on Cayman/Boxsters as well as many conversations with multiple Sales Associates. The 981 GT4 was under priced. People were putting their names down at 7 dealerships to get on the list just on the rumor and they were assuming that the price would be 10-15k higher than it came out to be. Porsche had to increase allocations once they recognized true demand - a failure of their marketing department to assess market forces. I believe that Porsche marketing was blind and taken by surprise from the demand for the GT4 because they were overly focused on the 911 variants.
As a life long engineer (and 911 owner), I know the engine belongs in the middle. That is why the 919, 918, Carrera GT and F1 cars are built that way. The last 911 to win Le Mans was a Mid-engine 911. If Porsche puts a GT3 engine in a GT4 chassis even if significantly detuned, the demand is going to be awesome. Watch.
I also recognize what Porsche did with the GT2RS at the Ring.....a rear engine car with a power deficit compared to it's competitors. A testament to the driver and the suspension.

The above is not an opinion, but one based upon facts.

I probably could have communicated this point better. The conversation was as follows...

I think the demand for a 718 GT4 would depend on some factors. Would there be a PDK option??? Would it have a de-tuned 4.0 NA or 3.8 from the .1 GT3 since they have now committed to 10 years for those engines ???? I think if Porsche does decide to build it they will make sure they have the demand-side figured out but remember it would not be until 2019, the earliest, so it makes sense why the guy stated no GT4 in 2018. I think it is a very interesting car and I hold it dear to my heart. It is a lot of fun that car and is a great bargain. I hope they do make it because would be nice to see the improvements/developments over the first iteration
