Speedster - Calling All Cleaning Ladies

there will be 1,948 Speedster WW, meaning there will be roughly ~650 sent to N.A. USA will get ~600, Canada will get ~50.
the above listed document is just a reserved VIN bank range they submit to NHTSA. Not a production count.
As of 11/14 991.2 GT3RS is currently up to 862 verified built for N.A. of which 84 are verified for Canada.
IF production continues through March we can expect ~1,600 3RS for NA, (~1400 for USA)

I see what you're saying but if that's the case it would seem like the one piece clam shell design couldn't accommodate either a manual or electric top since there would be no path for the rear anchoring points once the clam shell closed. That clam shell would seem to only allow for a tonneau cover and I'm dubious that Porsche would endeavor to sell 1948 cars that can't go out in the rain.

I think because of the spy shots showing the roof has rear buttresses. You could electrically lift the whole clamshell but you couldn't fix the buttresses onto the outside of it once it was back down again. We possibly haven't seen final roof look yet though.

ferrari f430 spider... it’s doable. Just like the 997 speedster, it’s held down by tension vs.981 Spyder fixing points. Has anyone here operated the 997 Speedster top?

I had a 997 Speedster. I'm a bit fuzzy on the specifics but one of the reasons I sold the car was my dislike for the top. It had too many manual steps and there were a couple of spring loaded levers where I felt like I was risking my fingers when I opened/closed.

Likewise. Funny thing is that I meant another 997 speedster owner this past weekend. He just bought the car and had no idea how to operate the top. It brought back some memories showing him how to operate the top. Once you get a system down, it’s not that bad, at least imo.
I have heard that the top design on the 991Speedster will be an “award winning fest of engineering.”

I did not even have a top for a long time, I just had the tonneau and a hardtop I never used. Well, I had the tickford top but it shrunk to not fit at all. The tonneau eventually gave way to a tarp, which eventually gave way to nothing, then to the bestop center console cover (after about the third rain the radio decided it was not waterproof). Back then they were not worth what they are now and people actually drove and used them. Rain, leaves, spiders, I’d drive to school in a parka in snow with no top. I sold the truck, but when I got it back, it had belt rails so I could not go back to the tonneau so I have the roversnorth badger knockoff (and a different hardtop I don’t use), but she sits in the garage these days. No rain, salt or snow for my baby. After I get done with my NAS 110 (so some time in 2025), I plan to do a bulkhead swap (I have two, one new painted, one new galvanized — don’t ask — I hoard not sell), and maybe a galvy chassis, but a rear cross member should be sufficient to deal with the rust.

A pain in the a** top seems to have become a mandatory feature of every purist roadster. No pain, no purity. Mazda should watch and learn — make the next Miata purer by requiring at least two rounds around the car to open or close the top. The more useless wings and buttresses that must be rolled and clicked into various places, the better.
