I had a rental Camaro 2.0T (base, not even the RS) a few days ago. I was extremely shocked at the levels of mechanical grip, given Hertz all-season tires and bad roads (South Carolina).
I have a 2016 Z06 with the Z07 package (stiffer torsion composite blades, GCCB and maximum aero package). The $15k Camaro drives better.
So, placing the powertrain from my Vette in the Camaro I drove is likely to produce a car that I would enjoy more than my Z06, and they call it ZL1-1LE, and sell it cheaper too. I'm not surprised at the ZL1-1LE results vs. the 991.2 GT3, my 500Hp 991.1 RS does not remotely get close to the trust from the Z06, and in between turns there is always a straight.
I can confirm that visibility issues with the C7 Z06 only apply to the rear when using Stage 3 aero (you can't see anything in the back), but visibility issues with the Camaro apply 360 degrees all-around. I like the Camaro's performance, but I would not buy it due to its horrible ergonomics, so Z06 stays.
For the money, a low miles C7-Z07 is a great deal, 1/2 the price of a 991.2 GT3 (close to 1/3 the price realistically), and similar performance. Z06 is more fun than 991 GT3 RS, except swings at 7,500rpm and above but they last very little, whereas Z06 does fun everywhere on the RPM range.

Hmmm all this love for Vettes but they are not a Porsche. There are numerous forums that talk about overheating and many other issues with Vettes on the track. There’s a reason so many people are tripping over themselves to get at GT3 even at the high asking prices. There will always be something faster but still not a Porsche. Porsche there is no substitute. I don’t need a magazine to validate what so many know.

I think the AMG GTR is more analogous to the RS. When the new RS is released, that’ll be the comparison to watch.
But hey, I think we all know that we aren’t bringing the fastest horses out there with our GT3s... The engine is too under-powered and you can’t afford any mistakes because of that.

The GT3 is great and plenty fast, but will never be the fastest car in the under $200K category. By using sticky enough tires, more power and torque, and gee whiz technology, other manufacturers can make faster cars.
But who cares? On the track, it's not a race car, and on the road all of these fast cars are too fast anyway. Buy what you enjoy driving.
I'm toying with the idea of getting a 570 to complement the GT3 as a fun mainly-road car. I don't know which of the two is faster, and I don't care.

I want the get a Camaro or GTR (Black series) just to prove they don’t hold up for heavy track use.
Maybe 10 track days a year in cool temps, but I don’t believe it for Sebring in the summer.
I would love to be wrong, like them both and both are cheaper then RS.

Well you could buy two Camaros for the price of one RS. So swap them out in between runs, and you'll probably never run into heat problems.
