991.2GT3 vs GT4 (both manual)
Starting this thread to seek opinions from those that have had both.
I have a GT4 that I only use as a road/ weekend car.
I remain undecided on upgrading the GT4 to a manual GT3.
Jimmy D’s thoughts are always helpful.
Thanks in advance for any input!
Cheers,
Brian

Brian,
It is a very interesting question you ask because, like Myself, you do not track so we will never be able to exploit what the 4.0 can deliver. Will my .2 be more fun on the street than my GT4- The answer is "no" from an objective point of view. The GT3 is all about the engine where the GT4 is more about the package. Meaning- I still find the GT4 the prettier of the two and coupled with the mid-engine platform and more intimate cockpit is special in itself. The GT4 is a "GT" car.The manual is pretty much the same but so far I can say the rev matching and ease to DD and boogie around town appears to be more fun in the GT4. But- now I will tell you why I bought the.2 GT3.
The 4.0 is a monster of a NA engine. It certainly has a rumble, sound, and sense of urgency to it that the GT4 can not touch. You know that engine behind you is special. Although you will probably never get to go any faster in the .2 than the GT4 on the street the engine still tells you how special it is. The mid-range torque in the .2 is also a nice welcome. Also- - despite myself finding the GT4 still prettier- the classic shape and heritage/history of the 911 can not be denied and will always have a big place in my heart.
So- if money is not an issue and having a motor sport engine that screams to 9000 rpm gives you wood -grab a .2 and enjoy it. But- you are paying an extra ~$75,000 for the engine which I do get the justification. But- the GT4 is such a great value proposition and for the street it will not necessarily deliver ~$75,000 more fun
Conclusion - if you have the money to blow and a .2 you can get- go for it. You can always sell/trade it in a couple years for a 718 GT4 and probably come out pretty good and bank most of that money back.

I can tell you while I have driven and love the 991.1 GT3, as a current GT4 owner (who tracks about 1x/month), I am only looking at moving up to a .1RS or .2GT3. The .1 GT3 would be a step up in performance from the GT4, but in my mind, the price delta isn't worth the uptick in gains, UNTIL we start considering the .1RS or .2GT3

I said the GT4 is the prettier car
The .2 GT3 looks meaner and has more of a dominant presence
The .1 RS with its huge *** wind, vents and the side scoops ect looks like a beast- way too much going on for me. I do not find the RS to be a good looking car. It is a mean *** looking car

I only have 100km on my GT3, so hard to compare it to my past GT4.
1. Manual tranny’s feels very similar. GT3 is a bit notchier but car is new. Gearing is better in GT3. That was a big issue for me in the GT4 on the street but didn’t notice it in track.
2. The GT3 suspension feels much stiffer in normal mode on the street.
3. Engine is very different. Sound, character, torque, all unique. I also like you hear more engine in the GT3.
4. GT3 interior is louder under all conditions.
5. I like the GT4 interior better, smaller more cockpit like.
6. Steering on the road feels similar. GT3 might be a touch “heavier”.
Car is being put away for winter unfortunately but that’s my quick observation with only 100km on the car.
I would like to say that the GT4 is an amazing machine and out on track comes alive. I really enjoyed my time with it. I did ED with the GT4 as well, didn’t miss a step. The price point of the GT4 is very attractive too and you get your money’s worth IMO.

Too bad the new car has to go to sleep for the winter with only 100 km on the odometer....

Thanks everyone, keep all the feedback coming! Definitely curious since I love my GT4 and I like money but the idea of 9k rpm wingless 911 has me in the GT3 configurator once a week.....

Are you pulling ~80 mph at the top of second gear and would you prefer even shorter gearing? I can hit ~88mph at the top of 2nd now in the GT4 which is silly long so debating shorter gears for the GT4 or GT3 allocation hunting this winter.....

Interesting. The gearing seems a little shorter than the GT4 but still kinda long based on this thread : https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...ar-speeds.html
