I use Mac's through the wheels and criss crossed. http://www.macscustomtiedowns.com/pr...Tie-Down-Packs

I've had excellent success with them, and they take no time to install, now that I've done it a number of times. Also, I had a Tundra that pulled my ATC 20' enclosed V-nose aluminim trailer, but I used my MB GL63 daily driver one time and will never consider anything else again. The GL63 (and now GLS63) is simply unbelievable as a tow vehicle. With the MB air suspension and computers to control the SUV motion, I really don't notice the trailer is behind me most of the time, seriously. A used GL550/450 would also do the job just as well.

Just to point out how important it is to strap down the car thoroughly :
This happened in our area two days ago…

I cant find them on suncoast. Anyone have a link for these? Do they make them for the front of the car as well?

Do the ones in the link strap at the circled points? The pictures look very different.

There is only bolt per side. As per the pictures in my post its the outside bolt. They should be angled to opposite side so that you can cross the straps. By crossing them I have never had my car move.

Oh and to make getting the straps in the rear on (very low car and tight to work around rear diffuser and a potentially hot exhaust) use long needle nose vice grips like these... they will save you so much time and you won't burn your arm/face on exhaust.

RobbieRob stated earlier "IMO, hauling cars on/in a trailer with a SUV or a 1/2 ton truck is not a safe practice,"

i disagree. I tow a 3k pound gt3 on a 1500 pound aluminum trailer with a 1/2 ton gmc long bed crew cab with a 6.2 V8 and a 9400 pound towing capacity.

Explain how that's not safe practice....

Because in a panic situation your 1500 or SUV(not an excursions, smaller ones) will not be fun to handle with 5500 lbs of trailer swinging around compared to a 3/4 or 1 ton. Towing capacity is one thing, stopping it is another and manufactures only tell you what weight your drivetrain can handle or your hitch, IE tongue weight. And btw, your car is over 3k and with all your straps/chains, fuel, tires etc, you're not just at 4500lbs like you think you are with the low numbers you used. Go to a truck forum and check out the towing sub forum once in there, you will learn a lot more over there than you will on a Porsche forum. It's always better to have more and be safe than be at the limit, especially if you have your family with you.
Haul whatever weight you want with whatever vehicle you want, just be safe my friend.

Usually use the centerlock hooks on the car - however, when I dont I do the following; car stays in natural the entire time (not as much of a concern with a street car as the gearbox pins itself on wont ruin anything). If not using the center lock hooks/rings, I would go cross on the front and rears through the wheels (wheel straps). Doesn't compress the suspension and sure, it can roll a bit, but check them every so often and the car will be fine. Not possible to use the over the wheel straps/etrack with a Cup (and certain lowered cars).

3500 Denali diesel - wont ever tow an enclosed >20' with under a 3/4 ton truck again. Frame cant handle the size of it at highway/interstate speed - ask anyone who has had a 53' semi pass them on a cross windy day.

Id agree with your thoughts, open trailer is no issue for a 1/2 ton.

Biggest difference is transitioning to an enclosed trailer beyond 20-24' long and the 1/2 ton starts to get outside its comfort zone.
