how does the torque vectoring work on porsche? is it brake only system and does that wear out rear pads? can ptv be turned on and off with a dash button? how important is it to have for an advanced hpde driver?

It applies the brakes to the inside rear wheel to prevent understeer at corner entry. It does prematurely wear brake pads and rotors. No, it cannot be turned off. It may not be necessary for an advanced HPDE driver who trail brakes into corners, but it won't cause such a driver a problem either (beyond more rapid brake wear).

Maybe trail braking will cause the PTV system to activate less frequently - not sure...

Which car? On a GT3, it cannot be skipped...

And on other models, skipping the PTV means skipping the limited slip differential (something you want, unless getting an aftermarket LSD)

for macan gts that i will use for 2-3 moderate level hpde per year.

I wouldn’t want to lose the electronically controlled mechanical LSD that comes with PTV+ For any tracked vehicle

yes, you do. At least on the Macan I would skip the option. It’s not on my wife’s and it does fine 8n the rain or snow.

just look at p car config and yes, ptv includes an electronic lsd.

Get PTV+. That electronically controlled mechanical diff is worth a little brake wear and $1,500, for any vehicle you intend to track (Better in snow too)

is the lsd something that will overheat and cause problems?

i had nothing but trouble w lsd on my 997 gt3.

i will not be pushing macan hard on track by any means. i use lotus for track and will only take macan if bad weather, family coming w me, etc. 2-3 times/yr at most. im experienced instructor and will only drive it at mild/moderate level

Never had a Macan, so not sure. The electronically controlled LSD has been bulletproof in the 991.1 GT3. Much more reliable than mechanical one in 997.

Since you live in NY, the LSD will really help snow performance too (not just traction under power, but PTV would be great for steering in snow/ice). Nothing worse than understeer in slippery conditions...
