This past week I finally did it. Got rid of the 991 Turbo Cab and went with a high MSRP GT3.1

I have been watching pricing and cars coming for sale for a while (year or so). I also tried to work many angles to get a .2. Once I realized it was hopeless I decided to move efforts towards the perfect .1. I had a great experience dealing with CJ and Fresno Porsche. I met him on RL and he has been amazing to work with all the way through the process of meeting his great team and taking delivery last Saturday. Here is it on the lot.

Initial Impressions

We drove the Turbo quite a bit. About 18K miles in about 2 years. Plenty of weekend trips and most enjoyable a 2,500 mile week long road trip around, AZ, CO, UT and back to CA. The Turbo was also lowered on Techart springs. It was also never tracked or AXed.

Our first impression is certainly the cabin noise level is a bit louder at start up and driving around town. You certainly hear the "GT3" sounds, for those with one you know the sounds. On the 200+ drive home however it was surprisingly a better ride that the Turbo. Don't know if that is difference in tire, difference of being lowered vs not or just the suspension but the GT3 was a smoother ride at highway speeds. The last really noticeable difference is the punch off the line that the Turbo has.

The brakes - PCCB's. OK I was a skeptic. These brakes are WAY better than steel brakes of the Turbo. The instant feel, stopping power and consistency just driving around town you could feel the difference. Downside is they do squeek more when cold for sure. the Turbo brakes never made a sound.

So far I am very happy about the move. Tomorrow will be the first boys canyon run to let her run a bit. Cars are definitely polar opposites of each other.

Mods planned

The car will be a weekend toy and will get tracked about 4-6 times in 2018, probably closer to 4.

Initial mods will be
  1. clear corner lights - did this when I pulled it into the garage.
  2. Red calipers. Too each his own but for me the entire interior is all black and red and having yellow calipers was not a good look in my mind. I also don't care when driving around other Porsche folks needing to show off my PCCB's so that was done yesterday. Thanks to Mel at McKenna and our local, amazing guy Jason Irby from OC Wheel Recon. He does amazing work at a very high level.
  3. Detail and clear bra - When I received the car the only blemish was a gash in the clear bra on the frunk. - Mo at Glistening Perfection will take care of the detail needs. I will be dropping it off this weekend to get the full treatment. I will do a full review of this job when completed.
    1. Full paint correction
    2. Frunk clear bra replaced and headlights done. Rest of the front of the car is completed.
    3. side skirts and rear quarters with full clear coverage instead of the small rock guards that come on car.
    4. Interior detail/protected.
  4. Back up camera - Navtv and camera will get added. I am really used to having this feature and want it on this car. I haven't decided who will be doing this job.
  5. Potentially some mild graphics - undecided here but maybe the PORSCHE wing logo, 3.8 on the wing colored and the side stripes similar to the 997 4.0 (gray/rad combo)
  6. Lastly because we do so many miles and road trips I am contemplating jumping in and doing an integrated laser/radar system in lieu of my standard windshield mount Escort Max2
  7. For now no track mods etc. Maybe a different exhaust would be the extent of those type of mods however I want to keep the car in the medium to make it enjoyable on road trips as well as track capable and quite frankly in stock form it will be more than I can handle.

Corners already done, first hour

Congratulations! I’m sure you’ll love it and drive it as much as the turbo. Looks so good with the red calipers. Great to hear that cj has been building such a fantastic reputation too.

Thanks guys. Another nice surprise I found out that Fresno did a full maintenance on the car as well. Only had 1,900 miles on it so not sure if they had to for the CPO but they did oil, all filters and even plugs. Now time to drive it like I stole it. Loveing Porsche of Fresno, or is it Fresno Porsche? Probably should clarify that.

Congrats, great looking ride! Enjoy it!

Nice ride, and enjoy in good health ........lots of hype around the next model. This is a fine car, and I thoroughly enjoyed my 991 and the only reason I sold was for an RS. Minus that I would still own the beast. Congrats again.

Congrats!

Thanks guys!

Went on the first drive today with a few buddies. First of all the first time hitting 9K gave me goosebumps, what an experience. Then we did a short little run that I have done 1,000 times in the Turbo. Impressions, brakes and lightness of the car. I have no clue what they both weigh but you can absolutely tell the difference in the tight right to left twists. Also the braking is friggin amazing.

Almost forget to give my impressions of 14 ways and 18 ways. I loved the standard 14 ways in the Turbo. The 18 ways are nice and as comfortable. I would be fine with either, the 18 ways look a little cooler up top by the shoulders.

Brown Santa was also good today delivering a few goodies. Standard plate frame that I like and my favorite mats. I have had these in many of my cars.

Tomorrow it gets dropped off at Glistening Perfection for Moe to work his magic.

Beautiful GT3 you brought us, and can’t wait to transform it for you.

Congrats she is a beauty

Let us know how you go with the graphics please... and if you have any pictures to share, that would be great. Am thinking of doing some stripes also, since the whiteness of the GT3 is just too clean for me...

Initial urge is to go with a single thick stripe (997 GT3 4.0 look) but in matte black with grey outlines (to match wheels).
