Wheel center cap on or off for track?
Manual states caps on at all times. But I see many at track have them off. I know it’s easier to see the locking pins with them off but how will it affect the longevity of the center locks? How about on wet tracks ?

Was always told ON, to keep sand/dust off the center-lock system
Wheels never got hot enough to be afraid of melting the cap... It did happen with other cars in the past :-)

Off unless you like to buy new ones. At least on the 997.2 with CL they would pop off on track days. Maybe the new ones stay on better.

Our region requires 997 off due to them flying off while on track, but 991 CL caps stay put. I always remove to check the lock then replace them. A nice older gentleman with an beautiful silver RS parked next to us at Sebring in Feb. He complained about stripping his wheel splines at the track. He had just replaced them, went out first session, came in quickly with a drive problem, it happened again. Rear wheel was loose and he was lucky to not lose it. We took off the caps and someone had not locked them. Can happen on a car that goes from service to trailer to track.

On, but I check during the day to make sure they are locked out. Just tales a minute.
