but there is a lithium battery in 2019 Cayenne, which also has RWS and many other power hungry things, like air suspension. So it's very puzzling why they do not offer it in GT3.

The "power" of LWB and regular battery is the same.
i shouldn’t have written it so matter of fact.
its what I think is a problem.

I just know that on some, (not all) tracks the typical aftermarket Li batteries that worked fine on the 997 cause RWS error messages thrown up on the dash.

I remember seeing the 991.1 GT3RS configurator just before it was taken down and the lithium battery option wasn't on it ... yet the one I purchased second hand had it as an option.

Maybe at some point during the .1 production timeline they took it away for a reason and haven't offered it since.

You'd think it'd be an option on the 2RS if it was viable ... or maybe they can't secure a reliable supplier.

They can clearly source a Li-ion battery that could handle the demands of RWS. I'd guess the bigger issue is it worth it to them for a likely low take rate, support headaches (cold climate issues, durability etc. ) and marginal weight savings in light of the first two points.

Can't say it was marginal weight saving. Because it was 13.5kg lighter than regular Porsche battery!
It was 2280.-€ option and compared to WP 18.000.-€ (without mag.wheels and with tit.rollcage -18kg) it's like pretty good deal

I didn't mean it wasn't worth it as it was (old specification), agree that is a lot of weight. I was saying if they had to add capacity to handle the other issues (being able to handle greater draw from things like RWS) and better deal with cold weather it likely wouldn't save as much to justify the cost and hassle of supporting another battery. Just postulating not a battery expert... I believe this is supported by the fact that no GT cars come with it standard (or even as an option any longer?) If it was reliable and could save >10kg they would make it standard.

The AMG GTR comes standard with a Li ion battery. It also has RWS and a bunch of other convenience items as standard/optional that needs a decent amount of power to operate. No one that I’ve heard of is having issues with it thus far. The car does come OEM with a nice battery trickle charger/conditioner and you’re warned to keep it on the charger if not driving the car for more than a couple of weeks.

Just came back from or local Porsche dealership and he indicated he should hear real soon about the GT3-RS allocations. Has anyone received a GT3-RS allocation yet? Expected ADM?

^ Some have, it's hit or miss by dealer. See the GT3RS alloy thread.

They did away with this option because of liability issues from my understanding. If you drain the battery you are SOL

Odd, but possible. I have the Li-Ion battery on my 991 R, RS, and 981 Spyder. It is a huge weight difference, to be sure. Pretty cool. Wish they still offered it from the factory.

I thought they dropped the lithium-ion battery because of shipping concerns. Weren't the cars supplied with both batteries with standard battery installed? How was the lithium battery shipped? Loose in the frunk? Who would want that risk in a ro-ro ship.

Yeah, they were shipped with both...normal battery installed for journey, as far as I believe...swapped at PDI.
