I agree. As evidenced by the lengthy approval process by experience.

No doubt, there are a handful of colors that are very popular and frequently chosen, but just because IG is loaded with the same 15 popular colors doesn’t mean the PTS process for new colors is dead.

As as much as all of you complain about everything PTS, demand for PTS is greater than ever - even with PAG essentially doubling the price. In fact, they could barely handle the demand.

a friend "sold"his car on BAT. Let’s say reserve was 92k. The highest offer was 86k, not meeting reserve. BAT used part of their 5%fee to makeup the difference in the selling price. This way it appears that a successful transaction occurred, when in reality, the seller kept his car. True story. The car was not sold on BAT, but in reality was then traded into a local dealership for more then the BAT sale price.

How does it appear that “a successful transaction occured” when the auction ended without a sale (Reserve Not Met) and “the car was not sold on BaT”?

A trade-in is typically a part of a more complex transaction involving a purchase of another car. The dealer cares about his combined profit from all parts of the transaction and often adjusts the trade-in and purchase prices accordingly.

BaT reported it as sold and were willing to use the commission to make up the delta between the actual selling price and reserve. Simply, BaT was adding their 4300 commission fee to the deal.

So BaT falsely marked an auction as “sold” where no sale had actually occured? Did they charge the highest bidder’s CC the 5% fee? Do you have the link for that auction?

My friend did indeed not sell his car on BaT. They tried to force him into selling his vehicle. He referred the folks at BaT to their own listing agreement, which states that the seller has the right to accept a structure as such. He did not accept it, and ultimately traded it into a dealer. The car in reference was an agate grey gt4 with roughly 13k miles.

Unbelievable. Still showing as SOLD. How did the auction register as “sold” if your friend refused to accept BaT’s offer and lower his reserve? Definitely something fishy going on there. Thx for the heads up.

Wow. So BaT reported results are all suspect.

If you were wondering why Bring a Trailer would pitch in to reach reserve price or they would report a sale when didn't occur, it's simply because they're trying to increase their company valuation. It doesn't matter if they're not profitable.

This is why their sales can't be used as comps.

BTW it looks like the highest bidder is on Rennlist, maybe he can confirm.

So why not just mark all of their auctions as SOLD, regardless of the actual outcome? Things don't add up to a complete picture here -- something is missing (not right).

I have no problem with BaT offering a deal to the seller to lower his reserve and make everyone happy. The 5% fee is theirs to play with however they want -- all auctioneers do this all the time. Falsely representing results/outcomes is a problem and a different matter altogether.

I got no horse in this race but from game theoretical perspective it is also possible that BaT competitors start spreading FUD about BaT to divert auction traffic to their own sites. Many internet wars out there.
