Default 991 gt3s or 997.2 gt3rs

hi guys, i currently own a 991 gt3rs and i am thinking of getting a 997.2 gt3rs as i have always want one since it was launched years back but never really committed and get one. However, i finally found one that is on sell but obviously at a high price.

just wondering if it is all worth it? What do you all think of between the 991 and 997.2 gt3rs? Of course, the manual gearbox gives much driver satisfaction but again, if i have both of these, drive time will be split and i have other cars too, furthermore i don really drive my cars much as i don really have much time for drives with all the works coming in.

I know i really love one, but again, i don really want to buy cars and have them sit in my garage collecting dust.

so i would appreciate to hear some thoughts on the 997.2 RS and what is everyone's choice between these 2.

thanks

buy the 997.2RS if you want exitement as soon you have time for a drive.

keep the 991.1RS if you think already now if you should take out the rough RS or not.

i chose and would choose again 991.RS over 997RS because with the ///M and Caterhams and bikes and soon with the ACR - the 991RS makes way more sense in combination.

what are your other cars?
daily driver or something sporty?

I had a 997RS for 3 years and put 25,000 miles and probably 50 track days. I have had may 991 GT3 for a little over a year. The 997 is raw and loud and engaging. But you have to worry about a money shift. I had an issue with the cam actuators that luckily was covered under warranty, and had to replace the clutch and pressure plate twice. Driving to and from the track in heavy traffic was not fun. I am in my late 60s and the car was beating me up. In contrast the 991 gt3 is much more comfortable on the street, and on the track I am so much faster. No lack of excitement either with super high revving engine. I absolutely love the 991. No need to have extra sets of wheels and almost no track setup except letting air out of the tires.

I had both.
Different cars.
Everybody will have different feedback, here is mine.

997.2 is small, it wraps around you.i like that. 997.2 is more vicerale to me because it definitely doesn't drive as perfectly as the 991. 997.2 is scary some times makes you on your toes, alert, alive. Again I like that a lot.

997.2 requires precision in the moves. It rewards when you do things perfectly in order or it's clumsy. So it's like a coach to perfect your manual driving skills. Specially on the track.

991 RS makes you feel like a super hero. Grip all the time as amazing speeds. A little bit too cleanical. You can feel that the car is driving a little bit for you. the PDK is amazing with pops on up shifts. I was changing gears way too much with it but the paddle shifts are too small and they click too smoothly. It's probably faster but the 991.1 gt3 had better paddle shifts. Big with a lot of mechanical click. A little bit more engaging I think... But that's the only thing 991.1 gt3 has better than 991.1 RS.

If you are interested, I'm selling my 997.2 RS and I will be happy to cook a price to a rennlist enthousiast.

I had a 991 gt3 for a couple years but didn't love it as much as I thought I would. Stupid easy to drive fast but vmax isn't the only thing that contributes to driving pleasure so I got a 997.2 RS. Way more fun at least imo. More visceral, engaging and satisfying when u get it right. Good luck!

buy the perfect one. later on you feel you don't drive it enough just sell it. doubt you will lose any money on it. probably will appreciate at this point anyways.

997.2RS is my favorite porsche. hoping the new one will come close to that feeling.

New one will be amazing, just as every future Gt3/2/RS will be. But it won’t produce same close to same feeing as a 997; that era is over. New era is amazing for a whole different set of reasons.

I own a 7GT3 and driven many 1gt3 and 1RS. Unless you track the 991s, it is too refined and composed on the street. The 997 needs a track to fully exploit the potential, but you are having way more fun on the street compared. The raw feeling and the TQ delivery of the 997 is better for street.

This is what makes the 911 so amazing. Every generation while they may look nearly identical drive like totally different machines.

So to compare one generation to another is like comparing a ferrari to a porsche so to speak..they are quite different.

I love the 997. It''s my favorite gen of 911.

That being said the 991RS is wonderful and comfy and insane when it needs to be.

For daily commute to work I'd pick the 991...for the weekend fun I'd take the 997
