Are PDK 'fast laps' usually run in auto mode or with manual shifting?

This is an answer to a slightly different question But for autocross, I usually take the first run in Sport Auto and all my remaining runs in manual. Once I get a feel for the course, I'm always faster in manual.
When I was at PSDS (at Barber), we drove both stick and PDK in manual and auto. In that case, it seemed like PDK seemed to always be in the right gear.

I watched the now famous video of the GT2RS lapping the 'ring and it did not look like the drivers were shifting manually. For those who have PDK transmissions, is it faster to just leave the car in auto mode and concentrate on braking and steering or do you shift manually in fast lap situations? I have always wondered this having manual transmissions in my fun day cars.

Did a couple of laps yesterday at the Ring and the PDK in auto definitely knows what it is doing.
There where a few places where I might shortshift or stay in higher gear.
I can't compare times because of different traffic situations.

same here. on track always manual.
but wondering how perfect the PDK in auto + "sport" button works. and how huge the gap from PDK auto in "normal" to "sport" is; without sport: each 10kph one gear up... best to stay below 2k rpm
if Mrs.jo_ker is driving - the mandatory setting is "sport" + PDK in auto. It is so funny because the car is anytime ready to go and forcing the driver to do so. each comfy braking will be answered with downshifts up to 5k
the first few miles from here in the RS where like: "pssss. keep calm baby. huch! all good..." like talking to a wild horse.
woundering who is driving with "sport" on auto on street
an intermediate step between auto with or without sport button would make sense.
but all this things are forming the mentality of the car. of the 991. the less and more radical funktions it gets. the better it is.
i do drive always manual. for the fun.
the "sport" button makes shifts faster also if on manual. at least it adds more throttle during up shifts. this is the only real difference i feel. what else it does?
could not tell right now for sure if it changes also the throttle response.

^^ Exactly.
Normal = Caddy mode.
Sport + = bat**** crazy track mode.
Like the regular C2 the car needs 3-4 settings.
On track in manual mode, I can’t detect a difference in the normal or Sport+ mode. Or the exhaust mode. Since I never use TC or SC buttons, to me all the buttons are useless.

you do miss some fun and adrenalin
even not as soon another set of tires are done?
i still do not understand why:
Step1 is: ESC off.
and Step2 is: ESC+TC off.
for me - i would like to keep ESC (a bit) on - as long TC is fully off.
it would be way more usefull as a nanny - if step1 would be: TC off and ESC a bit on.?

The car slides enough to get any rotation you want except Tokyo drift jo_ker style around the Ring roundabout LOL..
I agree I would not mind TC off with SC in the background for when you hit oil/coolant.
AMG is completely off, but SC comes back when you have a certain angle UNDER BRAKING only.
Pretty cool and smart.

another thing about TC and SC:
why-porsche-911-gt2-rs-is-so-fast-at-nurburgring:
A lot of drivers don't do this because of the Karussell's rough surface, but Kern said that it helps save some time. Preuninger also told us that Kern set the lap record with both traction and stability control switched all the way off.

Some cars are un-drivable in the carousel and must run without systems to avoid coming to a almost complete stop.
Exiting Carousel my cars usually spins and the TC intervenes shortly.
