Which seats for GT3 Touring? Sofas or LWBs?
#31
I debated this more than any other option. I tested both side by side and the buckets were just not comfortable for me; 6'3" and 220 Lbs. Also agree on the getting in and out of -- bolster wear, etc. Went with the sofas. Do plan on tracking car and I will just swap seats for track events. I do agree that the resale on the buckets would be better but I do not value that a lot. I tried to buy both sets of seats but PNA would not allow.

I am researching kids seat options with LWB. My intital research seems to show that if you want little ones with you it has to be sofas. Worth considering as part of this discussion.

I agonized over this option more than any other on my winged GT3, and ended up getting the buckets. Which I love and find very comfortable. But I almost got sofas mostly for my occasional passenger who likes seat heaters and the ability to recline, and for easier rear cargo area access. That said, to answer your question, Touring is still a GT3, so I would still lean toward getting buckets if I were going to track it, even if only 3-4 times a year. On the other hand, if I had a dedicated track car (or didn't track at all, ever) I'd get the sofas.
Or, if it's mostly you by yourself on Sunday drives, get the buckets. If its you and a significant other on long road trips with bags, get the sofas. It all comes down to personal preference, intended use, and priorities. Regardless of wing vs Touring. Among the long list of inevitable compromises between the two, only you can decide what's most important.
My winged GT3 has to handle both road and track but in an ideal world, if I had the room and resources for two, I think I'd get a GT3 Touring with sofas for weekend drives and road trips and a GT4 with buckets as my track car. Of course that plan may go out the window when I finally get my new GT3 on track!

I think the mistake some people make, and I originally made, is basing their conclusion regarding LWBs on sitting in them for a few minutes at the dealership. I did that and hated them. Then I drove around in them for a while and fell in love with them. The more time I get in them the more I prefer them.
if someone is on the fence know that LWBs appear to be very easy to sell for well above the option cost. I mentioned that I might sell the ones on my incoming Spyder before I drove with them, and I had multiple people bugging me to sell them to them. And my ask was going to be $10k plus their seats.

If I was given an allocation I would go for Sofa's I know I'd miss the buckets on occasions but the extra comfort for the majority of driving would be too much to pass up

Except for some, the LWBs are more comfortable. Getting in and out is a different story, but for comfort when you’re in them, the LWBs would be my choice. But everybody is different.

I don't get this bucket seat infatuation...they aren't that great as track seats and they aren't as comfortable as the 18 ways...For a non wing GT3 that 95 percent of owners aren't going to track at all...go sofa and make the cabin a great place to be for a long period of time without telling yourself the buckets are comfortable...because they definitely aren't "comfortable", they are more "tolerable" at best. Maybe if Porsche added a little bit of cushion and angled them back 3-5 more degrees...but not as they come.

And those of you ripping them, have you actually spent a few hours in them actually driving a car?

Here‘s my take.d
I have no experience with the LWBs and the Sofas in the 991, however, between the 964RS buckets and the sofas in my Carrera 3.2 and my 993 C4S and 993 C4 Cabrio I once had, in the buckets I never got a back ache or sore shoulders, where after a couple of hours of driving in the Cabrio, my upper back starts to feel burning. The 964 RS buckets are narrower compared to the 991 buckets, that is no issue for me with long legs 1,87m and 72 kg. Even a friend being a little shorter with maybe 25kg more prefersmthe buckets.
the only issue with the buckets is that you somehow need to adjust the inclination, the seat cushion thickness and the back support, that can be done through different thickness cushions and/or foam pieces. I did that very successfully in the 964RS. It may need a little time, however once done you‘re fine.
