Here is an excellent video from a respected person in the radar/laser community.

I was a long time valentine1 user. since the 90's and I still like the directional arrows.
but, the Redline-original beats the v1 on ka band (what most cops use) easily. now if this r3 is that much better then it should be "the" radar detector to get.

I am going to run both my older v1 and Uniden on my trip to Hilton head next weekend and will report back. Looks like Uniden gets 1/4 mile advantage and that is huge on this trip as interstate 16 is long and straight from Atlanta. I will post my impressions.

Don't run two radar units at the SAME time. Run them separately.

FWIW, I've found that these detectors have saved me from numerous tickets, and lack of laser jamming hasn't been an issue. But I remain situationally aware and adjust my driving accordingly, rather than just relying on the detectors.
I need to buy 2 or 3 more detectors, and for now I decided to give the Max 360 a try. May also pick up an R3. Simpler operation is better for me, I don't like fiddling with gadgets.

I have been a loyal V1 guy for 20 years but am sick of the upgrade for $299 or $199 deal.
Bought a pair of Max 360s and am happy with the arrows from that. Moreover, you can upgrade firmware through downloads connecting the detectors via laptop.

I have 3 V-1s I need to upgrade, my latest version one works great, Im surprised to hear they've been beaten at Ka, Valentine continually upgrades their product. I once bought some crap called and X50 by one of the other brands, without the arrows I felt crazy. The V-1 is metal cased and feels hardcore. I figure this is what will happen if I buy another brand, 2 months later Valentine will come up with an upgrade and I'll be pissed and ebay the other detector, I dunno, Ive used the V-1 for years, theres no way to tell without a real unbiased head to head test

I've been a V1 user for many years. And I've had very good luck with them despite not upgrading mine for 7-10 years. I just recently decided to take the path of low cost and low friction and sent mine back and received a brand new updated unit for $289. I'll use that mounted on a Blendmount and with Waze.
On my last car (Panamera TT) I installed a built in V1 and separate laser jammer and in this case I am just not feeling the motivation to do it again...

Right, I always assumed the updates would be included at a very low price. So bought Uniden R1 299 delivered. But it will be interesting to see how they both operate simultaneously.
