Checked out cars.com this morning for a 991.1 GT3 and noticed some 2014's going for the $120's range, which I sort of expected after hearing about the 991.2 GT3, and some potential reliability with 991.1 GT3's. I really want a 991.2 GT3, but my SA and dealership I purchased 5 porsche's from in the last 2 years seems to want to screw me and not give me one, and so I've been seriously considering a .1 GT3. Seeing the $120'sK got me thinking about whether they'll fall below $100k once the .2 GT3 become delivered.

SO what do you think? Should I wait out till they fall below $100k, will it happen pretty soon or not at all? if they do fall, then that would mean even a low mileage 997.1 GT3 would be selling for more than a 991.1 which is crazy to me because of the performance gap, but perhaps the feel and connection is justifying the price increase of those. Basically if they fall below $100k I would purchase one, but to me if I'm spending over $100k I'd rather get a .2 GT3... Any guesses as to when they'll fall into my range?

While I hate value threads, I'll bite.

I don't think we will see them that low as soon as you hope as there won't be many 991.2's on the street for at least another year. They should start showing up in the next couple of months, but it will take a while for them to hit the secondary market outside of flippers. The one wildcard IMO is if Porsche does ramp production on the 991.2 like some hope but few believe will happen.

It seems that for now, sellers are still wanting and expecting top dollar from the 996/7 GT cars, which will in turn prop up the 991.1 GT3. When those values start coming down, which I believe will be shortly, then you will see some slippage on the 991.1's but you would need a 20% devalue to even hope to see the lower end cars fall below your 100k figure.

I don't think they will fall below 100 any time soon. Even when the .2 comes out and is available I expect most of them to be 110-140 still. I also don't see the 997.1 or .2 values changing much either, but we will see!

Or demand for 991.1 could increase. The people in your situation that cannot source a .2 just may be in the .1 market too. If u want the car, it's optioned the way YOU like, buy now. 120k seems very reasonable on a 150k car.

997 GT3s were in the 60s in 2012. Some were guessing they would fall into the 40s. Sounds crazy now, but when the economy tanks, so do the prices of luxury goods.

So when the correction comes and it's of decent size, sub 100k could be possible.

barring a non-forecasted economic issue for the economy, no.

If they do, I would rather have 2x 991.1 than 1x .2. for the same or close to same amount.

The increase in costs on new cars/options, helps limit the downside to the older ones.

There is a '15 with great specs and full expel clear bra on the whole car that just popped up in the classified for basically MSRP. I found that surprising and a breath of fresh air. It has under 1k miles I believe ... basically new.

That might be a hint of what is going on with '14s and higher mileage GT3's but with so many people getting boned on the .2's - I would think the .1 market might drop a bit more when the people start taking their .2 orders and dump their .1's .... who knows

Find a car you love and pull the trigger, beating around the bush isn't putting the miles and smiles on! We all know Porsche will announce another even better package in 18 months anyways ...

Eventually but probably no time soon. Question of how long you're willing to wait. I would try harder for a .2 allocation. Agree, if I'm spending the going rate on a .1 I'd rather buy a new .2 GT3.

2012: 997.1's- most were 70K to 80's, very few below
997.2's- 100K to 110K
.2 RS - 115K to 130K
Prices on RS started going up quickly in 2013...

I was in the market for all the above at that time and ended with a .2 GT3 for 105- no change in price since then FWIW- economy has been growing since then, so yeah a sustained dip and all bets are off.

10 year 100K engine warranty you are dreaming. To any real driver these are now worth more than any other GT3 in Porsche history non RS variants. I sold mine because I have a .2 coming and now I am regretting it because I track my GT3 a dozen times a year and I would kill for this warranty on the engine. The PDK is so strong only weakness is the engine lobe wear issue covered under a huge warranty.

While most 997.1 were 70+, there certainly were some that were in he 60s. I almost pulled the trigger on a clean one with above average mileage.
