The above image made me change my configuration from xenon to PDLS. The darker lights suit the Chalk color better and goes well with the Touring Package in black.

However The PDLS is darker than you might think.

Here is a pic of 3 Xexon headlights in direct sunlight. .1 black on left, .2 PDLS in center, .2 no PDLS on right.

From that perspective they look dark. But up closer at 3/4 view they are very chromey IMO.

you mean like the 3/4 view of the green car above?

seriously though, the full black is noticeably the darkest, but the PDLS looks closer in darkness to the full black than it does to the lightness of the non PDLS headlights, from either a front or 3/4 view.

Yes. And PDLS definitely darker than non-PDLS. Even a dark gray vinyl ring around the regular PDLS would help a bit I think.

Thanks for the responses, all.

It looks like something like this may be the best option for those who specced the non-LED lights, but prefer a darker surround: https://kistudios.com/blog/black-vin...ed-headlights/

My one concern with adding vinyl is that I remember reading it's advised to not clear bra over the headlights, since upon removal it'll strip off some coatings. I wonder if the vinyl is a little less sticky than clear bra though..?

I have the kistudios headlight vinyl over my clear bra headlights. I was initially worried, if removing the vinyl would cause the clear bra to lift. My installer put it to my attention, the adhesive on vinyl is much less sticker than clear bras. They were the one who applied it for me and assured me it would be okay. If it won’t lift a clear bra, it definitely won’t lift the coating.

That looks awesome, nice work! What color vinyl is that (regular gloss black)? And didn’t you do clear bra over top of the vinyl? Can’t see a seam at all.

its the metallic black option. That is the color which mostly mimics the OEM Black LED ring. The vinyl is actually put over the clear bra. My clear bra installer applied it, don’t think I would be able to lay it as clean.

Looks like a perfect match. Would you mind posting some more pics of the lights on the car from further away?

its a pretty close match to the OEM Black LED’s. The oem black LEDs are really a metallic dark grey. I only have garage pics at the moment.

no problem! They are cheap enough if you aren’t happy with them you can remove them. I can say, I’m satisfied with it.
