I think it was the R8 review where he made a huge deal about having the pocket on the back of the driver's seat when it's pressed up against the bulkhead, etc.

As I said, usually his review of the quirks is rather enjoyable. But sometimes, it misses the mark and doesn't really explain the weirdness that makes the car. This was one of them. Just my opinion.
I would describe that as pedantic.

Uhh, somewhat different in real life, but not always.

I know him well and have for nearly 5 years.

My biggest fear is that when I get to hell I'll be forced to listen to Shmee videos for all eternity.

That would be rough.

I like Doug's videos. Most car journalists today are all about the beautiful shots of the car drifting around a track. Only a few are really good at describing how the car drives. I enjoy those videos a lot, but rarely do they get into the quirks of exotic cars. Doug's film quality sucks, his mic is even worse (it's his signature now), but I enjoy watching his reviews and laughing at him and the weird quirks I would have never known about.

^^Agree. He seems like a good dude and car enthusiast. He's trying to differentiate himself, doing something he enjoys. His columns are well-written and his off-beat episodes are often highly entertaining. He can't hit a home run every time. I've been meaning to order his book...

I suppose if I didn't know a Porsche from a 1974 Vega, I might have found this interesting. Also, all the jump cuts (in editing) were distracting as hell. I think I prefer Shmee -- and that's not exactly a recommendation.

Hmm, who is Doug? Never even heard of him. Should I actually know him? What is he famous for?

Isn't there a John or a Jake or a Jill that's more important?

Doug is a regular car who likes reviewing high end cars. His reviews are not meant to be comprehensive nor fully revealing the driving characteristics of the vehicle under test. He never tests cars on a track or particularly demanding roads. Rather he drives them on regular streets and then offers his opinions based upon very simple criteria. He is not Chris Harris.

Doug tries too hard. His earlier videos when he wasn't trying so hard to maintain his fame, or clicks, or whatever, were far more entertaining.

Also, he could have cut about 6 minutes off that video...well, most of them really.
