In person really authentic and nice guy, and good sense of humor as a writer. It's just something about his video style which can be grating, sort of like Shmee but taller and American sounding

^^^^^^^Heh, the comparison to Shmee is interesting. They both have very charged personalities, and sometimes can be big put-offs, but they tend to find and describe cars in ways no other reviewer does. I look at them as complements to the Jethro's out there......

That's fair, but Tim Burton isn't a "douchebag" either.

Agree, but to be clear, I never called him that, or any name. And his style of observing all the little buttons and details IS complementary to mainstream reviewers. I just prefer to read his articles rather than watch his vids.

Correct; I just found the original accusation (not you) that he was a dbag curious, since he's not (although he is other things).

Didn't say he was a douchebag. His reviews can be douchey though. This one was pretty bad. He could have been reviewing any ordinary 911.

I like the guy, and watch most of his reviews, but sometimes...he misses the mark. I know, it's easy to be critical from the other side of the camera.

I'm not upset or white knighting for the guy; I'm just a little curious what you observe as douchey in the review.

Sometimes he tries to hard to make a point about a particular item that just really doesn't need a point made about it. Like calling out the graphic of the car when the lift is activated. The goofy point that you can't see the engine any longer, etc. Then sometimes he does get his facts wrong, like the 911 R being the only 911 having the tach going to 10k. I think it was the R8 review where he made a huge deal about having the pocket on the back of the driver's seat when it's pressed up against the bulkhead, etc.

As I said, usually his review of the quirks is rather enjoyable. But sometimes, it misses the mark and doesn't really explain the weirdness that makes the car. This was one of them. Just my opinion.

His fun with the Range Rover and all the repairs covered under the carmax warranty was good. In fact I bought my 911 from carmax and got Maxcare from his adventures. It's worked out quite well. His story with the imported Skyline was a bit off though when he expected people on the street and a Nissan dealer to be excited to see one. He found out it was meh, it's just an old Nissan

I would agree that Doug is a bit hard to watch sometimes, just like almost all the YT guys are. They all become formulaic at some point. Even Chris Harris gets old. But it beats watching TV/Netflix 9 out of 10 times.

Besides, how many times can a person watch Breaking Bad??? I may find out the answer to that, one day.

Shmee is just creepy for me....doesn't come across as natural as some of the other Brit youtubers like Supercars of London, Seen Through Glass, or Mr JWW.

Doug obviously has an advanced degree from the Jeremy Clarkson College (the mascot is the rear end of a donkey) of Car Reviews, where he spends 75% of the review making fun of a car (through its "quirks") and 25% of the time building it back up before declaring it the Best Car Ever in the last 30 seconds.
