Default Cayman S with a DSG or SMG

Will it ever happen? I am asking for a friends wife who likes the Cayman S a lot but will not drive a manual. Since I have a tip, I have been trying to talk her out of a tip (for performance reasons) and getting a manual but I am not getting anywhere. TIA, Cory

I know Porsche is developing a dsg unit to replace all the tip units in all the sport cars. The fact that vw and audi already have the dsg (duel clutch) unit in many cars means they already have the rights to use the dsg system so im sure we will see a dual clutch setup in some configuration soon. I have the dsg in my GTI and its pretty amazing i can only imagine a cayman with one would be awesome.

Porsche is probably waiting to use up all the remaining tip units before releasing the DSG, they can't have them on the shelves collecting dust...

So far there has not been a DSG unit that could handle the hp/torque outputs of any of the current line of Porsche engines.

the bugatti dsg was the only exception but that was a custom handbuilt box over $100k+

MY09-10 we shoud definitely see the Porsche dsg box.

BMW seems to have no problem with the SMG in the M-5 that makes over 450hp and Ferrari can get theirs to handle over 500hp. Hard to believe Porsche can't figure this out.

1) If she wants a Cayman because it's cute and sporty, then tippy will be fine for her.

2) If she's buying a Cayman for performance, why doesn't she want a manual gearbox?

Are you telling me that a housewife can tell the difference between a DSG and a tippy? Doubtful. You seem to be disappointed in your decision to buy a tip, why don't you tell her to buy yours, and then YOU buy a manual Cayman? That seems the obvious solution - everyone's happy

Apparently they are releasing the DSG in the GT2. I saw a post on Caymanclub.net about it...
