just gave up #1

I just gave up my #1 spot at a dealer yesterday and got my deposit back.
Layoffs at IBM dictate that I don't EVEN think about buying a $60k car as much as this represents the ideal modern P-car to me because of the 'practicality' of the two trunks.
I'm instead going to buy a '83 911sc, one-owner, 58k original miles, immaculate inside and out (some may have seen it in the current autoweek)
And sell my 2004 Saab, get a lower car payment for the SC and continue to try to sidestep the IBM axe....

I'll be green with envy any time I see any of youz guys blowing me away in your new crocodiles.....

Olav A. 06-07-2005 10:30 PM

83 SC is that about $8K?

NC-P-Croc 06-07-2005 10:58 PM

$8k I wish !

This one is a loved-on one-owner car with 58k miles, immaculate inside and out. Lots of work brought up to date before being listed for sale (oil/filter, plugs, valve job, brake fluid, tyres... etc) I can't wait till I pick it up Thursday...
drive it from northern Va. back to NC, the drive should be good for the engine.
I'll get the airbox popoff valve from Pelican and DIY it, just ordered a nice Noah car cover today.

No, $8k I wish, this one is about $20k, CPI and NADA top of the charts as far as cosmetic and mechanical condition goes.

But it's black on black, whale tail, polished Fuchs with black centers, exactly the style and colour scheme I was wanting to find.

Those of you who get the new crocodile, best of luck. I'm envious, just read the new writeup in Car & Driver.

Not sure you may need to be that envious, the SC has alot that's been lost on the newer Porsches. I'm in line for the Cayman but not that motivated about it when I'm driving my C2 and the SC is more of what the C2 has over cars like the Boxster. We'll see what it's like before I plunck down $60+Gs. For the depreciation, I could make a kickass RSA replica with a supercharger outta my C2.

There is no reason to be jealous - an 83 SC is a real man's Porsche. The "crocodile" might be faster and more advanced, but it will be the LAST thing on your mind when you're behind the wheel of a old school 911. ENJOY THE SC, POST SOME PICS !!!

well I got the '83 SC Thursday night in Manassas and drove her home to NC. I'm getting bigtime thumbs up from the folks in Raleigh that are service specialists and resellers of quality pre-owned Porsches. When I arrived at the dealer and saw the car in person my jaw dropped, it is far more impressive than even in the pictures I had been sent. The Carrera tensioner update had been done, one guy spotted the oil lines. I've ordered the airbox popoff valve, and the car cover I ordered was on my porch when I got home. Coincidentally (or not) there's a local Hurricane Region concours for charity tomorrow, so she'll be there! I'm loving this car. Not having experience with older air cooled cars, I had no idea how well these cars are built, how much they're built like a tank, how good the materials are. The interior is near perfect. I had to post one photo. What a find, 58000 one-owner miles, she has a good home now.

The SC is nearly bulletproof. There are examples with more than 250K miles on a stock engine (no rebuilds).

You will love the drive! Great car. It looks beautiful, indeed.

Beautiful car, as Marv said.....these were some of the Porsches best.

Dan87951 06-11-2005 10:13 PM

fuchs... drool!

Marv 06-11-2005 10:52 PM

And... You will not have the mystery trunk solenoid problem that seems to plague the new 997s. Seems the trunk pops open after you wash the car or it gets rained on. The trunk light will drain the battery if left unattended long enough.

First year for any model is always the toughest. Hope it gets sorted out soon.

Love the lines of the classic porsche...

Nice ride, you'll probably be better off with the SC.

Sean 06-21-2005 12:34 AM

Beautiful SC! They really don't make 'em like they used to. Your car might even appreciate (wish we could say the same of new Porsches).

pcar964 06-21-2005 12:38 AM

beautiful car that SC, makes me want to sell my 993 and get one!!!

JFScheck 06-21-2005 10:11 AM

Was that "Vader's" car? ;)
