Road and Track - Best All Around Sports Car
The 987S got an excellent review, and tested out better than almost all of the sports cars, including the 997 for overall performance etc. 5 out of 8 editors chose it as their #1 choice. Amazing article with lots of performance data.
The new Vette won the overall, Boxter S was 2nd, Carrera S third....

What I also liked about that particular article is that without the price factor the 911 won and the Boxster was 2nd.
The Boxster also set the Road & Track record for the slalom beating the record previously held by the Ferrari Enzo.
Overall a great article.

I agree with you both...R&T printed a terrific article!
Please also note that a comparison of test stats (those for the Boxster S on page 74 with the "Road Test Summary" on pages 112/113) evidence additional areas where the Boxster S excells. The Boxster S beat:
-Every car except the GT1 and the Elise in both braking distance tests;
-All but the Viper, Enzo (narrowly), Panoz and GT1/GT2 cars in the skidpad test;
-ALL OTHER CARS (as Stacey mentioned) in the slalom.
(e.g. the Boxster S handles better than almost anything else we'll see on the road).

Check out the article in Car and Driver where it goes against the 997, C6 conv, S2K and Mercedes. Boxter won overall on this one. If you look at the R&T matchup and see the scoring details, The 997 and Boxter were winning the points in different categories untill they included the points for the cost of the car. That is where the C6 beat out the 987 and 997. The 987 is sweet.
