Default Something a bit differentL LS3 987

Hi all,
I wanted to share my race car that we are hoping will be finished and ready to (again) race this summer. It's powered by a 525HP LS3 Crate motor from GM racing. The car had mice/rodents eat the entire wiring (engine and chassis) harness and it was a great candidate to sell the stock motor an swap in something a bit more spicy.
Its been a bit of a haul and hope that the upgrades will be what it needed to be safe, reliable and fast on track. We did a big brake upgrade with AP racing brakes, a new OS Giken LSD and while we were at it we changed the cam for something bit more aggressive with more top end (short gears...so mote revs is nice). Here are some pics from the dyno. It made 516hp at the motor and 469whp. 459whp with the super quiet exhaust we need to run at LCMT.

Man that thing is going to rip! You are going to surprise a lot of folks on the track. I just picked up my freshly swapped 997 LS3 and it is an absolute blast. There is power everywhere and it lost so much weight over the rear end I “had” to put coil overs on it to get it back down to a reasonable stance.

What cam did you go with?

Mine is the 495hp hot cam, very nice in traffic but when you want to be gone…she is GONE

Please post more pics and videos! I will be getting mine back in mid June after a PPF color change and exterior restoration, hopefully will post a lot of pics soon!!

My son convinced me not to worry too much about the 1% IMS Bearing issue, and that we could always swap in an LS if in fact it did go. He's put a Mustang 5.0 in his 1987 BMW 3 series and is in the process of swapping a modern Chevy straight six into his 1960 F100, and adding a turbo (which he also did to the original Ford 6 that was in the truck when he got it).

Sounds like a heck of a fabricator and mechanic! Are you talking about the old school 302 or the more modern Coyote?

At this point I am hearing more of bore scoring issues, which is the fate mine met.

HI guys,
The cam was a custom cam from Cam motion...I needed more rev's at the top and to move the powerband up a bit so that it wasn't quite as touchy at mid RPM at corner exit...it tends to want to slide (a lot). also due to the stock gearing, i run out of gear so now i can rev to 7100rpm which should help. I was at 6500rpm before. It was the "525 crate motor" when i bought it so it had a bit of a more hot cam than a stock ls3. The new cam seems to be good (at least on dyno..) and has a nice chop to it.
I was at Mosport but not in this car (in my RS) but hope to be there with it this summer. We built another one, a blue one that goes to Mosport often. That one has a LS7 and a sequential in it. Pretty wild.

I'll be running this car on track in June at LCMT for a Rennsport event and will report back and take some video.

The one you mentioned with LS7 and with Sequential is very intriguing! Is it one of your build?
