987 Tiptronic P0706 Error
Hi Y’all,
I recently inherited a beautiful ‘08 Cayman 987 Tiptronic.
On our journey across the country to its new home in Colorado, I got a “Tiptronic Emergency Run” fault, forcing me into limp mode. Side note: it was raining very hard when I got the error.
I took it to a Porsche Dealer, and $200 later they sent me on my way after clearing the code and finding nothing else wrong.
The next day the fault happened again so I limped it to the nearest auto parts store to get an OBD reader. After clearing the error, no more problems.
So here’s where I’m at now:
-The P0706 error occurs shifting into D upon startup, forcing the car into limp mode.
-I can clear the code with the OBD reader
-The car then drives and shifts normally until 24hours have passed (manual mode works fine as well)
-I cannot start the car in R or D
Anyone have any ideas? Ideally I’d love to fix this myself, or at a minimum be knowledgeable when I take it into a shop.

Mine just had the same error but my car it a 2010 PDK car, it happened to me several times, restarting the car would fix it for about one to three days, since changing the coil packs I have not had the error for about 2 weeks , I even took a out of town 150 mile trip, I would go ahead and change plugs and coil packs if they have not been done in the last 5 years.
