WTB Cayman S 987.2 PDK
 
Looking for a 987.2 Cayman S, PDK, sport chrono. Open to white silver grey blue. Black, natural brown interior, maybe a few others. Open to mileage. No accidents or paintwork preferred. Well maintained. Track mods are ok, suspension exhaust, wheels etc

I'm researching / searching too.

Seems the 987.2s are hard to come by and when available are a bit over priced (according to places like Car Gurus.. grains of salt) .
But tons of 981's (2014) available for just a little bit more $$.

I'm curious to know what makes the 987.2s so special? (besides the engine refresh without the IMS)

For me, the 2012 Cayman S is absolutely gorgeous. :rockon:

I have a 2011 987.2 PDK chassis for sale. White over black in excellent condition. However, it is chassis only with no engine, trans, harnesses, computer dash, etc. It is perfect for a renegade conversion or for someone who needs a tub/suspension for a wrecked car. PM if interested.

I've got an 987.1, a 987.2, and had a 981.

Putting aside the subjective looks question, the steering on a 987 is nicer than on the 981. I personally like the stripped down cabin of the 987 better than the 981. Objectively, the 981 is a more refined modern car and probably a bit quicker. OTOH, its interior looks like the Macan, the Cayenne and the 911, and I don't really get into that. The shifter on the 981 is essentially the 987's with a Porsche short shift kit as far as I can tell. The clutch on the 987 is a little lighter than on the 981. When you're in a 987 you quickly realize it was designed 10 years before the 981. That's either bad or good, depending on what you're looking for.

Having said all that, if I was looking now for a mid-engine Porsche, and found a decent price for the 981 Cayman S in the colors and options I wanted, I'd buy it. The 987.2s are more rare, they were out right after the recession and I don't think they sold all that well. I continue to think that the 981 will keep its value well for the 6 cylinder engine behind you.

We bought our 2012 black on black base a couple months ago at a great price with only 9300 miles on it. Were looking for the newest low mileage one we could find. There were only 8 2012’s in the whole country at the time. Definitely the perfect driver. We do like the styling on the 987-2 better than the 981.

Yes, some of us wants a real handbrake and don't want an old man's center console and don't try to fool us by saying it's just like the 918 Spyder.

Oh yeah, I forgot the handbrake and how much I disliked having to reach under the dash to get it to go on in the 981. Didn't care for the hill stop and rev matching nannies, though they would have to be activated on the 981. And though the car had the engine off feature they all seem to now have, its default was off as well. I was always on the fence about the PSE too. The burbling overrev sounded great but I knew it was totally fake, just some code in the ECU telling the fuel injection what to do.

If I remember correctly from the numbers I saw a few years ago only 125 Cayman S models were shipped to North America in 2012.

Here's one in Ontario Canada - 2012 Cayman S

Black Edition w/PDK / 37K miles / $49.9K Canadian - it's up in Ontario so assuming it's Can.$ => 37.5K U.S.

Not sure I'd jump through the Canada-to-US transfer hoops, but it sure looks clean.

Found a UTube video walk around of the 2012 Cayman S in Ontario Canada (mentioned above).
At 1:30 in the video he does a close up of the placard on the dashboard. Says "Black Edition - Limited Edition 207 / 500"

500 Black Editions total in the world? What does it mean!?

Porsche is famous for "Limited Editions." There was a Black edition, there were also the Cayman R in '12 and Spider in '11 . Each were many more than 125. The black Edition was IIRC mechanically identical to the standard S, the others not so.
