Default RESET OIL/MAINTENANCE INTERVAL

Great news for the DIYers!

I am writing this to confirm that Creader 7S successfully reset the oil inverval reminder for my 981 Boxster after s/w update.

There were some confusion among other forum members that Creader 7S will only reset oil interval, not the intermediate and full maintenance notifications.

Even though I haven't tried intermediate and full maintenance reset, they are listed in the menu and I am pretty certain that it will work.

I purchased this device on Amazon for $75 because my local dealer (Porsche Exchange) wanted $150 to just reset the oil change reminder which is pretty ridiculous.

Here are some pictures of the process.

Any idea if this also works on the 987.2?

I am pretty sure it will work.
Order it from Amazon prime. If it doesn't work, you can return it without any hassle.

Thanks for the update man. Looks like all Launch did was change the name from 'CresetterII' to 'Creader 7S', to charge more money. Oh well. At least it's cheaper than what I was looking at (iCarSoft POR), for $140 or so. Need to look into getting one, before the dash warnings get more annoying.

This has worked great on our 2009 987.2 Cayman S so far! Just reset the service light a moment ago.

So i got mine. It will only reset the oil interval. My menu looks a little different it says "automatic reset or manual reset" where your pictures say "software reset or manual reset"

I have not updated the software on a computer yet (opened it up and plugged it in) so that is my next step. I will update with results.

When you do s/w update on your pc, DO NOT select any manufacturers (porsche, bmw, etc). Just click through to the next screen and set the language to english and choose the english version of the firmware.

On a side note, I haven't gotten the maintenance warning again in a while. I tried to reset it by pushing the lever forward, etc., but it didn't reset, as far as I could tell. But it hasn't bothered me again either. That was the only reason to buy such a device. Will wait on buying it until it happens again. For the heck of it, will check the maintenance menu to see what it says. Will do it on my brother's BGTS, in case I awake the giant again. Ha ha. Will also look for that new device on eBay and book mark it for future use if needed.

Hey All, so I went through as directed here, did NOT select a manufacturer but the next screen shows this:

Vehicle Language is English (also as directed here) Do I select "Standard Upgrade"? Thank you!

So i basically did all 3 and the last one i did was the standard upgrade. Worked for me!

If all else fails i think you can always switch if it isnt working.

Im not sure it matters TBH

You got it. I chose the third one for the upgrade.

I reset the service Oil reminder on my 987.1 this week after receiving the unit. It cleared it though it had an error on screen.

I'll try updating the unit as well, but for now all is well.

So the OP seem to have a good experience with this tool. Also did a very good job with the post and pictures (THANK YOU). However, looks like others are struggling with updates and possibly inconsistent results.

I am curious how much of this is attributable to learning curve (i.e. operator error) or weakness in the solution?

Any others (besides Extract0r) have a seamless experience with Creader?

Any other Creader device users on this forum that can share good or bad feedback?

Thanks for the help.

I'll chime in that I just got one of these.

In all fairness, the tool itself is VERY user UNfriendly. I just wanted to read a CEL code and it took about 5 steps. Since none of the buttons are intuitively labeled, and there are like 8 of them, it is somewhat tricky to figure out. I have yet to try resetting the oil service message, but will post back when I have an update.
