RESET OIL/MAINTENANCE INTERVAL

It is indeed very user UNfriendly. I have the Cresetter, which I think is similar, and could not have updated the software or used it without forum posts and Youtube vids. There are plenty of both, though, so it really isn't a big deal.

Thank You!
Dear Extract0r,
Thank you for the post! I have a 2014 981 Cayman S and am looking for a service reset tool, as I am doing my own 4-year service. I was having trouble finding the Cresetter II on Amazon and preferred to buy from them due to easy return if needed, so finding this 7S post was great!
Thanks again for posting!

Details on Downloading Creader 7s Software Update Tool
All,
After having trouble finding the "Creader 7s" product page in order to download the Creader 7s update tool, I found that the "Cresetter II..." web page actually has four rotating pages, the fourth of which is actually the Creader 7s page. You can click on the fourth circle at the bottom of the "Cresetter II" page to get to this page. See below screenshot for what you are looking for and the URL/website I used.
Note1: It looks like you DO NOT have to login or register the 7s to download the update tool.
Note2: The update tool file you want is "CReader_7S_Update.zip", it's about 35 MB.
After downloading the tool and updating to software version 2.27, I was able to reset all three of my maintenance reminders on my 2014 Cayman S. I used the "All service" from the "Service Reset" page.

It does not seem like the 7s tool is still available, does the X431 do the same thing? I am going to do my first DIY oil service on my 2015 981GTS soon and I'd love to rid myself of the stupid OIL SERVICE NOW code upon start up.

CR VII oil maintenance light reset
Bought a CR VII. Did the download and tried to reset as a Cayman. Did not reset. So was searching the boards for advice and someone over on Planet-9 mentioned he had the same issue and tried to reset as a Boxster instead. Well, it worked. Go figure. Thanks OP for the original posting, his thread has been very helpful.

Reviving an old thread..
I successfully reset my oil service interval today using a Foxwell NT520 scanner tool with the Porsche firmware.
I went into the menu for Porsche, 981, Diagnostics, and then Instrument Cluster.. under there was a menu for "Special Functions" which had "Reset Maintenance interval" or something like that.. You end up putting in the date of the service which resets the light.
I've used this tool before on my 997TT and it also resets the service intervals.

In reading an earlier thread, I looked for a Creader 7s, but it seems supplies of that device had pretty much dried up. However, I did purchase the Creader 7001 (a different case and cable) for $80 on Amazon. The software screens appear very similar to those of the 7s in the above photos and the 7001 will reset the oil light on my 987.1. Given the similarity of SW in both models, it's assumed that the newer 7001 would work as well as the 7s.

Oil light reset
Launch Creader 7001 is a very useful tool. I got a cr 8021 last week (ebay $90 delivered), which is one of the 7001's three ( or maybe four) successors, and does all 7001 functions, and a few more useful ones to boot. The best improvement, by far, is a very useful manual--quite a boon with these machines. A word of advice with almost any "update-able" code reader/scanner: UPDATE BEFORE USING. The 7001 and its brethren (8001,8011, and 8021) use microSD cards (included) and/or USB cable (also included) to update them. Believe the manual when it tells you the SD card is the better way to update. It is. Launch's update web site worked simply and easily for me, and Launch says updates are free for life-which is not the case with many other brands. Also, Launch updates all vehicle brands. Some others, after year 1 or 2, charge by the car model AND the update itself. Caveat Emptor. No axe to grind here, and no affiliation with Launch or any other reader/scanner company.....just a satisfied customer who does too much home work in re e-commerce buys.

Bought the Creader 7001 about 6 months ago and used it (twice) to reset the oil service light on my 2008 BS (987.1). Its purchase price ($88) just about equaled the price charge by a local indy mechanic to accomplish the same function, so it seems a good investment for those DIY folks doing their own oil changes. Would agree, however, that the company's s/w updates come with very cryptic instructions.
