Default 981 GTS gets its extra 15 HP how?

The 981.2 Cayman GTS has an extra 15HP over a Cayman S.

Is this just a software tweak, or are there any upgrades to intake or engine refinements like the 991 X51 powerkit?

I'm assuming it's ECU tuning only, and I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find the answer...

Hi,

From what i've read, there are no difference to the engine in the 981S and 981GTS. Although the GTS does get 3 Radiators while the 981S only gets 2.

If you want more power for your 981S.

Here are 3 upgrade options available;

1. IPD Plemum Upgrade and GT3 Throttle Body (will give you 20bhp) * The OEM one fitted is made of plastic and restricts airflow.

http://www.ipdplenums.com/products/p...ster-s-gts-dfi

2. FabsSpeed Sports Exhaust Headers (13bhp increase)

http://www.fabspeed.com/porsche-981-...sport-headers/

3. ECU Remap tune (20-BHP) There are lots of threads on this.

So by doing these 3 upgrades you will go from 315 BHP to 360+

* I would recommend getting a third Radiator fitted to control engine temp.

** Please also note if you have a Porsche Warranty, it will no longer be valid.

Cheers Michael

perhaps exhaust components are not the same - stock headers are pretty nasty, mufflers and tubing can be less restrictive too.

GTS engine intake takes air from both side intakes.

The 981S is the same as the 981 GTS and also gets air intakes from both sides.

The engine in the 981S and 981GTS are the same, the only difference is an ECU tweak to give the GTS model 15 more BHP.

Please also note that the base 991 and 981S are them same 3.4L flat 6 engine. Yet porsche has given the 991 350bhp and 981S 315BHP. This is so 911 buyers can be charged double for the cost of there cars.

With a few tweaks a 981S owner can have more power than base 991 as per message above.

According to Porsche drivetrain engineer Matthias Hoffstetter, there are no mechanical changes to the engine internals on GTS models. The power and torque increases come from a combination of ECU remapping and a reduced backpressure of the standard sport exhaust system.

I was thinking of the 987. One side was for engine intake and the other engine cooling. my bad.

991 uses a larger intake plenum and throttle body due to the available space in the rear engine compartment. The 981 being mid-engine uses a smaller design... at least that is one key difference for the GT4 versus the Carrera S.

Thanks... That is what I suspected, but wanted to verify.

Yes, I'm aware of aftermarket mods to increase power... Headers, plenum, tunes, etc. but wanted to confirm that it was just a few binary bits rather than hardware bits making the difference on the stock GTS.

Is the sport exhaust option on the 981S different than the exhaust of the GTS?

No.

The only difference is that it's standard on the GTS while it's an extra cost option on the base and S models.

Does the 981S sport exhaust have the sound symposer? The 981 GTS sport exhaust has it. Does not increase power but increases the perception of sound level to the occupants.

From that URL: All IPD Plenum warranties are expressly voided if installed and driven off-road or on race tracks.

What kind of weak sauce is that? Why would track driving void the warranty on an intake plenum of all things?

GTS for sure sounds louder than S.
Check partnumbers to see whether headers and exhaust are exactly the same.
