Default Hesitation 1st gear @ 3k rpm

There's a .5-1 second hesitation when accelerating in 1st gear. Sometimes happens around 3000 rpm, sometimes 4500 rpm. Happens in normal/sport with auto start off and pcm off.

I did a search and found that some 991 owners had this problem (attributed to variocam), but I couldn't find anything re: 981 BS. Is this a software, electrical, or engine problem? Thanks.

If it were electrical (spark) or engine it would be unlikely to be limited to one gear at one given RPM

Post your exact model and year. I've seen discussions about some hesitation of base 981s, but that was from a dead stop. And the consensus was to not just stomp on the throttle all of a sudden, but to take maybe 1/2 a second from nothing to WOT. All vehicles with throttle-by-wire (most nowadays), don't allow the butterfly to open immediately anyway, because it'd bog down the engine. I've never had that issue because I always do that myself. From 3K rpm, your car shouldn't be doing that, but if you have PDK (you didn't mention that either), and in auto mode, it might be normal. I always drive my 2016 GTS PDK in manual mode, and zero issues. Let us know more specifics so you can get better answers.

Solution, keep you foot on the throttle!

It's a 2014 pdk Boxster S. It happens only from a dead stop and only in first. It revs quickly from 0 to about 3.5-4.5k, then stutters for a second (sometimes the tach slightly jumps backwards), and proceeds normally to redline. This happens in manual too.

I don't experience this problem if I mash the throttle at 2k rpm in first.

Not these exactly symptoms, but I had a hesitation around 2500 RPM in all gears with my 981 S; took it in to Porsche and their lead tech says "they all do that." Also a common problem in 991, as mentioned. Not variocam, that's more around 3200 AFAIK.

Do you have exhaust valves that open at 3Krpm on that model? On my GT4 when one of the valves failed (one bank only, leading to a difference in back pressure between cylinder banks), I would get a pretty big hesitation around 3K.
