Default Brake Upgrade for 2011 Boxster Spyder?

Hi Guys!

New to posting but did purchase a 2011 Boxster Spyder from a fellow Rennlister in 2015. I've done the following upgrades already to the car:

IPD competition plenum
GT3 Throttle body upgrade
fabspeed traktech exhaust
fabspeed race header
gt3 brake master cylinder
agency power SS brake lines
cobb access port + Pro tune
Intake
michelin pilot sport cup 2.

The one thing that bugs me is is the brakes look so small under the 19" wheels. I was thinking about either trying to find a PCCB caliper set or some aftermarket brembos. Does anyone have any experience with BBKs for the spyder? Couple of questions that I have are:

1) Are the PCCB calipers direct bolt on or will spacers be needed? are their different fittings for say 987s and 997s etc?
2) Does anyone have any experience with the Brembo BBKs? Would i be able to fit the 380mm GT-R caliper / rotors into the stock 19 inch wheels?
3) Any other recommendations or feedback?

Thanks for the imput!

-Theo

There aren't a lot of choices.
I know of the Essex designed AP Racing brakes and the Girodisc rotors that will fit. Clark at Apex Performance may have other options.

I also had brake considerations a while back to upgrade on my 987 Spyder. As for OP question 1), I went with an upgrade from standard Red to PCCB. I learned that front PCCB calipers don't bolt directly to existing mounting points on the front spindles - I changed the spindles as well...maybe this could have been don't using custom brackets, however, I prefer to keep it OEM.

I documented my brake considerations here:

You might contact Vision Motorsports. They have a kit with 350mm AP rotors, '04 GT3 six pot calipers and custom spacers&bolts. You don't have to change spindles with this kit.

I have a StopTech two piece rotor BBK on my 09 CS. Easy to install and great on the track. They provided the brake systems for the old Cayman interseries spec race cars so they know 987's pretty thoroughly. Give them a call directly for advice.

Note to John at Fabspeed:

What's with the private response to the OP? You have access to black-market illegal brakes for our cars? We're all interested - and potential customers by the way. If you have a solution, spill it! If you want to keep your response private, send a PM to the OP - don't tease the rest of us.

Best option is 996 GT3 calipers, but they need a spacer. Talk to vision motorsports. You can run super cheap cayenne rotors with those calipers

While id like to go with Vision Motorsports kit, our rules in here prohibit adaptors etc... So I'm going to replace the carriers to bolt them straight up, as oem.

I understand that the 987 PCCB carriers will allow the 996/7 GT3 callipers to bolt right on, however you need to use the rotors from a 997 Turbo, not GT3 as they have a 2mm height difference, can anyone confirm this?
Others say go GT3 carriers Which is it?!

This is by build list with part numbers to fit 997.1 GT3 brakes to the front of my cayman, but its not proven yet:
Brake disc left - GT3 350mm 997.351.409.90 1
brake disc right - GT3 350mm 997.351.410.90 1
Caliper left - GT3 997.1 996.351.431.90 1
caliper right - GT3 997.1 996.351.432.90 1
set of front brake pads pagid RST3 1
connecting line 987 I450 996.351.961.30 2
caliper bolts GT3 - 997.1 999.067.047.09 4
damping plates - GT3 997.1 996.352.086.01 6
Splash cover plate left 987 I450 997.351.805.05 1
Splash cover plate right - 987 I450 997.351.806.05 1
Hex head bolts - 987 I450 999.217.116.01 2
wheel carrier left - 987 I450 997.341.157.25 1
wheel carrier right - 987 I450 997.341.158.25 1
tension bolt - 987 I450 997.341.131.00 2
Angular contact bearing - 987 I450 999.053.054.05 2
hexagon head bolt - 987 I450 999.217.042.04 8
hexagon nut - 987 I450 999.084.634.02 2
GT3 master cylinder - GT3 997.1 997.355.910.30 1

Sorry for the ****e formatting, tried a few different ways and this was the clearest!

Anyone done this upgrade before that can confirm these parts combination?

Lol, well Dave I did contact Theo directly as we have done business previously. I had to post something so I could show forum activity for the day. But, for your reference when it comes to big brake kits I am a fan of Brembo and happen to be a distributor of them, Stoptech, Girodisc, etc. Coincidentally I have two 987.2 Boxster Spyders at the shop right now, as well as my personal Cayman R. So, I am pulling the front and rear wheels off today or Monday and taking measurements to determine if the Brembo 380mm/345mm kits will fit the factory 19in wheels. I was going to wait until then to post the results but figured i'd tease you a little more lol

Thanks for the input guys! I'm focusing in on the OEM PCCB kit and also the Brembo GT 380mm/345mm. Will keep everyone posted!

Ok, if you go PCCB you will need about 14k if you find a good used set from LA Dismantler etc. new, 20k. So 1/3rd the price of your car probably.

Have no idea on the Brembo's but a front and rear set will probably be 6-8k for 6 pot system.

The system on our cars is awesome but totally get your problem. I took my PCCB's off for a future project that should have been long done until I bought my current Porsche project which is taking all of my time.

So I went down the Giro Disc path, they are bigger, two piece and look better and lighter. Get the GT3 MBC and steel lines and you're done and save a LOT of money. The Titanium lug nuts save 2 ounces! LOL

So I took the measuring tools provided by Brembo and confirmed that the 380mm/345mm big brake kit will fit and clear the 987.2 Boxster Spyder with the factory 19in wheels. This would be the same confirmation for the Cayman R...which has got me thinking now too haha
