Default Dilemma 718 Cayman vs Cayman S

Hey guys so after deciding to go for the 718 cayman i find myself in an internal discussion, my dealer has 2 caymans and 2 caymans s. Regular cayman are for the 70s and the other are in the 90s which i found stupidly high for an S not even a GTS. Now tue question is, Is the cayman s worth the extra 20k? Or should I get the regular 718 and upgrade it with a couple of things to make it a bit faster than the S with less money because i believe its exactly the same engine only de tuned.

Thanks

Not the same engine. The S is a 2.5 with a variable vane turbo. The "regular" 718 is a 2.0 with a fixed vane turbo. The S is actually running lower turbo boost.

I think the S model is worth some extra cost...work on the dealer to give you a well deserved discount...

What are you going to do with the car?
If drive on weekends on the road, the base Cayman is more than enough car.
If just looking at the 'S' makes you happy, then it's the 'S' for you.
Order a car and get exactly what you want!.
I drive a 981B on Road with no problems.-Richard

Order what you want and not pay for all the fluff that the dealer specked. For 90k+ you should get exactly what you want.
You should be able to get a nicely equipped S in the low 80's. Sales have not been hot thus far, so you should be able to get a good discount either way.

I drove both 718 cayman and cayman s. While I thought the cayman was alot of fun and quick. I always have had pretty good power in all my cars I feel the need for the power upgrade in the s. The s model was fun as the cayman was butter s had a much faster and quick feel about it. It can really get moving fast very quickly.

Also the cayman or the s had no sport exhaust, Sports Chrono. The cayman may be a little quicker with those 2 options. The s will also be faster both of them had the pdk which is a little quicker then the stick. I also think I get a really good feeling pdk being i only drive it in shifting mode.

The Cayman S has significantly more potential but honestly it depends how your car will be driven. There is a substantial price differential which IMO is only justified if the car will be driven in a way to exploit the difference. Barring that I would expect the main difference in day to day driving is likely that the S has virtually no lag while the base 718 suffers from a bit.

The way I drive the s suits me better and as I said I'm used to more horsepower. That sweet chassis with the extra horsepower is going to be a lot of fun. If you don't need the extra horsepower the cayman will be fine it has a little lag,but for guys coming from cars with good horsepower will want the s. I did not feel alot of lag on the cayman but I'm not used to turbos or 4 pots. I really did not feel lag on the s but kept the rpms up a little as I did with the cayman. Good luck deciding. My biggest dilemma was m4 or cayman s. I think my mind is just about made up, damn that cayman looks so sweet and rides on rails and compared to the m4 I think the s does not seem slower to me and hooks up with the pavement quite nicely
