2016 MX-5 Miata vs. used 981 base
#91
Did I ever reply to this thread? Hmm... well, it's a perfect thread!
I sold my 2011 NC MX-5, manual, silver hardtop... for my base 981 Boxster.
For ref, base boxster with just an ECU tune to round things out.
I'm very happy to have done so. I will note:
The Miata is "lighter", more toy feeling. More "chuckable" at any speed basically.
However, the flip side of that coin is the Boxster is just leagues more refined (than an NC, with an ND perhaps a bit closer)...
The Miata will have you hear every clink and clank, any cold weather and it is just upset at you, etc. My Boxster is just... never complains Well, yes, it complains at low revs in the sense that it wants more! The miata I felt you could feel like you were going at 10/10 at all times; the boxster has you wondering what's going on until 4.5K+ and then finally you're at home. Basically, you drive it differently.
I could slide out the tail in the Miata more easily than in the Boxster (but I haven't really tried much w the B, not much of traction-off either, mostly due to weather so far)
I love being able to operate the top while rolling! (on the Miata its a $300 extra you can solve that way).
