2011 Spyder new purchase... SSK?
#1
I am the very happy and lucky owner of a 2011 spider with very low miles. I had driven one locally before buying this one at a distance. The local one felt a little more snappy or or "racier" and I think might have to do with no short shift on one I bought. (It does have PSE so that's not it.) So, I'm about to install oem short shifter or b and M one. Does anyone have any direct experience with both in the 987.2 Spyder or S? I can tell from the older threads I researched people seem to think oem is best but in my 997 experience oem was notchy and sticky and bandm was smooth and precise... Any personal convictions to share that are more recent? Thanks!!!

I had a chance to shift the B&M shifter in a Boxster S and it was definitely less rubbery and shorter throw than stock but I also thought it was a bit notchy and not as direct as I would have liked.
Another alternative is the GT3 shifter which has shorter throws and uses bronze bushings instead of plastic. I've heard that's the best of both worlds, more direct, not vague and shorter throws. If you're making this change you might also consider getting the numeric shifter cables which eliminate any plastic in the shift linkage.

I have the SSK and love it. Maybe it could be notchier and Afshin makes a good point. If you are going to the trouble to change it, drop in the Gt3 bits and bites. But short of that, the OEM SSK is excellent.

Thanks to Zeus993 and Marine Blue. Looks like it will be OEM SSK for me. Do you guys suggest Suncoast or BumperPlugs etc. for buying the part? Based on what I've read, it looks like it comes with all you need to install it. I haven't actually picked up car from dealer yet (it's in Nebraska and I'm in Florida) so I'm thinking I'll just have them install it. They do not, however, have it in stock so I can have it drop shipped from anyone I please.
Also, after my non-stop research on this it appears I might need some fabspeed headers to go with the PSE...lol

I've heard good things about BumperPlugs however I haven't bought from them. I can say that Suncoast is awesome - consistent, fast shipping, no issues.

I had put an OEM SSK into my 2004 C4S and loved it - felt like a rifle bolt to shift. With the Boxster S, I find the throws are short enough and quite smooth, so really not planning on installing an SSK on this car. I really like the feel and precision of the stock shifter.
