Default 718 boxster or 2015 981 gts

ok, here is my story.
I'm in Canada
I screwed up. I wanted a boxster spyder. I placed an order with two dealers
to hedge my bets. Allocations for Canadian Boxster Spyders is very rare.
my local dealer got two. The other dealer got one.
My local dealer I was seventh on the list. the other dealer, I was second.
Needless to say, im screwed no spyder.
There is lots available in the USA.
With the exchange rate and import duty the spyder is now 145K
At that price it is in a different league.

Yes, I am fortunate to have a GT3 in Viper green. This is weekend warrior car.
I want a small convertible for daily driver, must be a stick. I don't believe in compromising when it comes to our winters. Any car works in winter with the right tires.

Current M3 v8 is great car. Need a change. also tired of DCT.

drove new m4 cab.....to big and bulky not an improvement from current m3.

drove f type 550hp... great looking, AWD plus for winter. Auto trans no no no

wanted ftype 380 hp 2wd manual... great looking, not driving.

boxster is a great drivers car. 718 is the best boxster version for the improvements....other than the engine.

I can get a 718s exactly the way I want it....hate the engine/sound
but, future tunable for power gain

or

2015 new GTS few options.....glorious engine sound

thoughts and comments appreciated.

It's hard to willingly buy a car that has been replaced by a new model.

That said, the GTS looks better, sounds better and arguably drives better.

Proven platform and kinks are largely worked out. Unlike the entirely new powertrain of the 718.

You can likely get a better deal on an outgoing model as well. I'd say GTS, no brainer.

Another vote for GTS. You have a GT3 for hardcore driving, so the extra performance of the 718 doesn't really matter all that much for street driving.

GTS looks and sounds way better. That flat 6 has much more soul and you will enjoy the theatrics and feel of the GTS more than you will the added boost of the 718.

porsche is going to have real trouble selling 4 cylinder 718's...

I lifted the link following to EVO's review of the 718 from rk-d's post.

http://www.evo.co.uk/porsche/boxster...still-the-best

I'm blessed to be expecting my first Porsche, a GT4, on April 22, so I am admittedly no authority on Porsche. That said, I love high quality cars and motorcycles. I too would struggle with a decision to purchase an "older" new car over the latest model. Nonetheless, I'd have to go for the GTS. My local dealer has one in Carmine Red. It's so sweet - a wonderful sound that will never be replicated by the turbo 4. Additionally, it seems with every new model, there will be bugs to work out for the first year, so I'd want to steer clear of that too.

Damn. A GT4 as your first Porsche?

That's like losing your virginity to a supermodel.

GTS would get my vote. Why buy a car that has an engine/sound that you hate?

GTS is one of the best bargains in Porsche at the moment IMO. Once I got wind of the 718 I grabbed one.

I daily mine. I've had faster cars, I've had more comfortable cars, I've had better bad weather cars - but I have never enjoyed my commute so much.

If my Spyder hadn't been available, I would have bought the GTS without hesitation. In fact, the GTS was what I originally planned to purchase until I found out my dealer had the Spyder available.

You would be very happy with the GTS

I'd hold out and wait for a used 981 Spyder to pop up but if you must scratch the itch soon then the GTS... as much as I want to be, I'm just not a fan of the 718

Thanks guys for your thoughts.
You guys helped direct me in the right direction. I am going to grab the last new GTS in Canada that has manual trans.

I figure, when the 718 is actually here, I could test drive and see. I just don't want to loose the GTS

GTS. I love my 987 Spyder's personality which is close to the GTS so it is hard to believe I would prefer a new 718. Just not a big fan of Turbo's (so far) in sports car. I don't like the rear end on the new 718 either.
