Spyders in the Wild...

Let's post up pics of how we are using or Spyders now that many of us have received them. I'll start...

Today my fiancée and I I joined up with some Porsche buddies to drive the coast heading north from San Francisco... The Spyder got major kudos for sound and looks.. Luckily I didn't give those turbo drivers a drive or I wouldn't have gotten her back.

This car is sublime in the twisties. Power is adequate, but handling, steering response, suspension compliance, and noise are fantastic. Steering feel a bit less so.. But overall a perfect driver's cAr for the road. The California coast is MADE for the Spyder.. Or the Spyder is made for the coast... Not sure. Anyway... Bliss!!! 70 and sunny.. Top down from 8am to 8pm tonight.

Awesome pics. The Spyder is one of the best looking cars Porsche has every made, both 987 and 981 versions. And yes I believe the car was made with California in mind, the weather, roads and scenery are absolutely perfect for it.

The rain has made California incredibly green. I was driving through Hwy 152 a couple of weeks ago and the scenery is breathtaking. I'm looking forward to posting some pics soon!

Did one track event. Had to experience the 3.8 giving me the ability to hang with higher hp cars. Not intending to do any more. Have a dedicated track car, alas with a 3.2L engine.

How was it on track?

Jealous. It is snowing here in NY, and it was -5 deg yesterday.

So much fun powering out of turns with the 3.8. Impressive lack of body roll. Not as fast through turns as my race car as expected with street tires and no -3 camber as I have at front end in race car. Highlight is the braking. My race car has awesome braking and the Spyder is even better.

I'll have both race car and Spyder back at Sebring weekend after next. Taking Spyder only for skid pad exercise the local PCA chapter has added to the agenda. Must resist temptation to put Spyder back on track. That 3.8...my oh my. :-)

After 5 years of ownership I finally had the experience of driving the Spyder in the California canyons. Let's just say it was everything I expected and more. I was up at the crack of dawn and out the door early and it was well worth it. The first hour was brutally cold (43 F) and heavy fog which technically would have been fine if I was dressed properly. But once I got above the clouds the sun shined down and warmed up the temps into the low 60's so it was perfect.

When I got back home and pulled into the garage my wife came out and the first words out of her mouth were "I smell burnt rubber, how fast were you going" :icon107: :D

Here are a couple of pics, I'm unfortunately not as artistic as you all that have posted before me.

Awesome Afshin.

It snowed an inch here on Friday, hasn't rained since, so the roads are still full of salt. Still jealous.

Ahsfin, I looked at your pics before reading the text of your post and thought, 'wow, Kansas is a lot prettier than I expected...'

I guess there won't be enough Spyders to have a "spotted-a-Spyder" thread. I've only seen one Spyder out in the wild, a couple years back I spotted a 987 Spyder in White on 23rd and 11th ave.
