Spyder. Jet Black vs Black

To my eyes, the jet black wins in all areas. Saw black and jet black boxster at dealer a few months ago and it was no contest to me. Best part was how the plastic parts contrasted with the jet black, while with regular black everything just blended in, tougher to see definition. If you're on the fence go to dealer.

I was at my dealer which is where I took those pictures. Initially, in the showroom I preferred flat black but then when I saw the jet black Spyder in the sun I was pretty much sold. Of course, shortly thereafter I start vacillating again. Well at least I know I want black.

What a good thread, thank you for posing the question. I was not sure which to order, both are really nice. I also really struggled with the choice, in the end I chose the non-metallic black. The Porsche Dealer showed me both but in his view the metallic was a not as dark, and I ended up agreeing. I do agree the metallic hides the dirt and swirls better, so I guess a ceramic paint protection and clear bra are first up on the list when the car arrives. I'm sure I would love both!

And those who say it's hard to keep clean; Opticoat Pro. Repels dust and dirt and makes cleaning the car a snap.

Guys and Gals, I love black . . . as well as other colors (for full disclosure, my GT4 is ordered in JBM); so, in response I apologize as it is not my intent to be a troll or an ***.
Porsche has JBM with METALLIC being the important descriptor. The juxtaposed BLACK is not "flat" as some have described in this thread. Flat is the "finish." The black is GLOSS because if it were flat we would all hate it because even when clean it would not look good - flat is the finish on a F-117 or B2 bomber. So, you either order JBM or Black from Porsche. The Porsche "Black" is very glossy.
Generally, paint finishes are gloss, semi, or flat. Those descriptors reflect the "wet" factor of the paint. I hate flat or semi-gloss paints on cars although some German brands have made them optional in recent years.

Yup, didn't mean flat in terms of finish, just meant non-metallic. Basic black.

Newby here...
I see paint code 041 is Black and C9Z for Basalt Black. Which is the non metallic black?
I too have always thought any metallic black looked a bit "dirty". Just my opinion.

Aren't you confusing 'flat' with 'matte'? First time I hear somebody disagreeing with the 'flat black' description. I have it, and consider it flat. Anyway, the bottom line is flat black is aesthetically better looking for most, but it's harder to keep nice (swirls, dirt, etc). To me, I'd MUCH rather have the metallic black than flat black, but the fully-loaded car I found was flat black, so took it, even though I didn't want another black car ever again. After this one, I'm absolutely not owning another. My flat black GTS scratches just by looking at it the wrong way; it's frustrating. I'm not a slave of it, meaning it'll look worse than a metallic one over time. I have it clearbra'd over 50%, but what remains is a chore to keep clean, especially the rear bumper. Should have done that too, since even after a mile, it's full of dust back there. Car still looks great when clean, even though I even use a California Duster between washes.
