Anyone owned a BMW 1 series convertible before?

I'm thinking I might need back seats soon and so was looking at small, sporty convertibles with back seats. BMW's 1 series popped up on my radar. As did the Mini Cooper S but after a test drive I was dying to get back in my Boxster.
The 3 series BMWs are too big for my liking. The 1 series, specifically the 135i, seems great on paper: plenty of power (though it's a turbo but hey at least it's a V6), the length is roughly the same as a Boxster, and the price is right (can get the two year old ones for mid 20s, which means I'd still have about 2 years warranty left).
Ideally I should wait til I can afford a 997 since it is barely bigger than my 987, which means it retains that go-kart feel but I'm looking at $40k+ for a 997 cab with decent miles (and no warranty).
I'll test drive a 135i eventually (have to go out of town to do so) but was wondering what people thought in the meantime.
