Radio delete
A question for you all you options experts.
I have specified my 981 Spyder with no stereo as I'd rather listen to the exhaust, save the weight and have the stripped-out look.
My dealer has suggested the idea that I get the free stereo and he remove the head unit at the shop and replace it with the blanking plate. Speakers and wiring will remain in place. That way it won't affect resale value if I trade it in in the future. They will simply put the head unit back in.
So what does everyone think of that idea? What happens to the speaker panels in doors etc. when you have stereo delete? How much of the weight saving is down to the head unit vs the speakers and wiring?

Order it the way you want it. Why compromise to make someone else happy?
While the majority of the weight will be in the head unit, the speakers and wiring do account for several pounds of extra weight. The doors will look the same - they will have a speaker grill, but that's all.
A friend of mine totally stripped his Cayman R, including removing 'extra' wiring throughout. The weight savings was substantial. Just the ducting from the A/C was around 8 pounds if I remember right.

If your an Alonso or Rohrl the weight difference could be an issue, but otherwise it's just a mind exercise.
If your car comes with Bridgestone Potenza S001 (one of three current OEM tires), get the dealer to swap them for Michelin PSS, which is a better tire and save 4.5 kilos.
If you like the look of no radio, take the dealer up on their offer.
I have the CDR Radio, Sound Package Plus, and Bluetooth Mobile Phone in mine (all free on our side of the pond)...it's been on once to test it.

I had the radio delete in my last 3 Porsches. Never an issue when re-selling used. My brother paid for the upgraded stereo in his GT4 and he's upset that it sounds like crap given all the other noises going on in the car!

Order it the way you want, enthusiasts will appreciate the stereo delete and reduced weight. Porsche stereo's suck anyways unless you're upgrading to the Burmester. I find myself turning the radio down or off completely more often than not lately.
While you may not notice the difference from removal of the stereo, when you start reducing weight elsewhere including batteries, exhaust etc. the difference in handling/acceleration will definitely become evident. It's the accumulated weight reduction that counts.

I have a 987 Spyder and am considering 981 Spyder.
I would order with base radio but not sound pkg plus (to save more weight) then have the radio removed replaced with the two level shelf.
My opinion would be different if Porsche made more of an effort to limit weight in this generation of Spyder then I would say order without radio. Seems like they tried to hard to make it work for everyone and its closer to GTS than original Spyder with respect to most luxury features etc as evident 18 ways being STD seats. The 3.8L is the equalizer.
With that said I think it might not necessarily hurt resale but take allot of potential buyers out of the mix if trying to sell privately .
BTW my 987 Spyder came with the radio I removed it and replaced with the shelf. Its a weekend car sorry to say only 3K miles but like the look of the radio delete, never wanted to listen to or even have the option of listening to the radio in the Spyder and in the 987 model the radio delete shelf lets you store stuff like wallet , phone etc
