2016 Model Year release date?
Anyone know when the factory begins accepting orders? My 2015 order got botched and I'm looking at having to reorder my 981 Cayman S. I want to see more photos of the new model year before I reorder to get a better glimpse of the updated fascia, which based on spy photos I'm not particularly fond of. Any chance the Sport Design fascia will still be offered? Thanks!

They have not given an exact date for the refresh , only have said its mid 2016.
But that will likely be a 2017 model.
They're going to keep making 2016 until then

For reference, MY2016 991 (still in .1 version) will start production in Zuffenhausen first week of June....in other words, NEXT WEEK! It would not surprise me if MY2016 Boxster 981 production at both locations (Zuffenhausen & Osnabrück) and MY2016 Cayman 981 (at the just Osnabrück) begin at the same time. No significant changes, other than the Macan/918 style steering wheel in leather, will be noticeable in the MY2016 981...at least until the upcoming MY2017 facelift (which at least on the 991 will start production later this year and arrive in the US as an early MY2017 in the spring of calendar year 2016).
However, the .2 991 (and perhaps the .2 981, I don't follow it as closely) will be debuted at the IAA (Frankfurt Auto Show) in September.
And I expect we will see at least the .2 991 at Rennsport V in late September 2015!

I'm about to go place an order and I don't see the 918 steering wheel available on the configurator. I'd love the multi-function 918/Macan wheel... it's just not there.

I am fine with holding on for a bit longer to the optional 'Sport Design' wheel, like the one that came on my MY2015 991 gt3 or the one I had on my MY2012 981 Spyder. They are one of the most handsome steering wheels Porsche has ever offered!

A clarification is in order. The photo I posted above is of MY2017. It popped up when I googled MY2016 and led me to believe erroneously that cosmetic changes were in store. As noted in this thread, the 2016 car remains largely unchanged. The inspiration for asking was that an order placed on my behalf by a U.S. dealer for a 2015 S model never came about and I am having to re-place the order, this time for a 2016.
Off topic, does anyone know if it's possible to order the Sport Design fascia without the rear diffuser being painted the body color? I prefer the diffuser to remain black. The online configurator automatically changes the rear diffuser to the body color.
