Bad form to paint non S calipers red?
I posted this in general forum without response. Maybe this is no big deal. New member, received much good advice here prior to purchase, appreciate all the people who have posted. Bought a 2010 Cayman, after driving a very nice 996, but did not care for the driving feel. That's a separate issue.
The finish of the brake calipers is not good. Car is black. Was considering painting them, most likely red. Generally do not care a whole lot about what other people think, but I also do not really want to be a poser, i.e. attempting to make the car look like something it is not. Posing as fake would bother me. I did the calipers on my son's Subaru (now crashed) and they looked quite good. It was not a crappy job, so I can do it reasonably well. However, is doing so posing or being fake? Gauche? On a scale of 1-10, how bad? Quite frankly, there are very few Caymans where I live, so I'm not sure who I would be offending, but still. Don't want the equivalent of a big spoiler on some lesser car. |
If they make you happy, paint them red. Who cares what other people think. Car is black, what about your wheels? Black car, black wheels, red calipers would look spiffy IMO....T

It's your car. Make it look how you like it!
Now if you painted them yellow you'd be a poser and we'd make fun of you endlessly. (Kidding!) |
Thanks. Just did,t want to get be that guy. Black car regular alloy wheels. I did order some of these center caps with color like the hood emblem. I think it will look good together.

People mod their cars like crazy, so why not red calipers if it makes you like the car even more. It's not like your trying to misrepresent the car for a sale. I'm with you on the coloured wheel crests. The gray crests on my car are the only thing on my car that "bug" me. One day I'll get around to replacing them.post some pics once you paint the calipers....T

Paint your calipers. Be happy. It's not like you're glueing an "S" on the back.

If I ever talk the wife into buying another (this time yellow) 911, first thing I'm doing is getting black wheels and painting the calipers yellow . That'd look cool, poser status be damned! T |
Yellow painted calipers was a factory option as far back as the 993. Way before PCCBs. No poser issues with that color.

Thanks, Lex. Was the 996 generation when yellow became equated with ceramic? T
The 1997 993 Turbo S had yellow calipers and steel rotors. Factory standard. Sent from my iPhone using Rennlist |
Whatever makes you happy! My PCCB's are getting done in GT Silver so it's all preference.

I like the look of yellow calipers.

Go red. Then drop some red seat belts in the front with a red key-fob and you'll be right.

There isn't a handful of non-Porsche owners who know what black, red, and yellow calipers mean. I think the red calipers are much better looking on most all colors of cars. Like someone else suggested...you're not sticking GT4 stickers on it. Paint away and enjoy the new look.
