Default Weight reduction - 981 cayman

what's the easiest way to shed weight off the 981 cayman? Anybody have experience doing it and can comment on the car feel after the weight loss?

Can you be specific? Which seats? How much do you save in weight? Which pipe did you delete? How much do you save? Thanks!

I'm not really an expert for tuning, but..

gt2 buckets, for example, you will save at least 30 pounds I guesss?

and the exhaust.. I currently have m&m on my 981.

full system (header+ exhaust) will save you 25pounds over stock.

I dont know for other brands.

you can save "good amount of weight" by installing super light wheels like 18" bbs or OZ superforgistar.

A lightweight battery will also save you 30 lbs.

Reducing weight definitely has an impact on the cars handling, acceleration and braking. The Spyder was an exercise in weight reduction with some suspension mods and the results are nothing short of amazing.

I found a used Porsche Motorsport battery for my car. That's a big weight difference fairly high up in the car. I thought I could feel the difference but that was probably PSYCHO-logical on my part.

'm finally getting used to the light/nimble feel of the CR vs my old 996 Cab/Tip, pretty amazing difference between the way the 2 cars drive.

There is a lot less to shed vs. the 987.2 When you start removing panels there's at least 1 less layer. The doors are a good starting point but they're not as heavy as those would think. The exhaust manifolds and mufflers are heavy AND they're in the rear so it's good weight to remove. Trim pieces and other parts for sound deadening and/or heat insulation can be removed but you don't want to go too far if it's street intended. I would assume you could do the following WITHOUT breaking the bank:

1.) lexan windshield
2.) lexan hatch
3.) lightweight wheels
4.) battery

Getting a bit more expensive...
5.) lightweight disc assemblies
6.) lightweight/aftermarket seats

While a bit more expensive...
7.) any number of OE replacement parts from Getty Design in So Cal for the 981 (hatches, decklids, doors, etc.)
8.) cutting of trim metal/aluminum from the car's peripheral/trim pieces.

The gutted PDK race car we just finished weighs 2800lbs with some gas in it and full aero, roll cage, etc. I think that a stripped 981 has potential to get awful close to 2700 or below.

That is impressive John!
I am enjoying my GTS now, we will see if this weight reduction idea gets embedded into my consciousness over the winter

Do you happen to have the model number of that battery? Also did it work well in terms of starting the car?
