If the car is level and the oil level reading is above the max line the engine is overfilled with oil.

Porsche cautions against this. It is in the owners manual though I can't quote the page number.

My recommendation would be to return the car to the dealer and have the level adjusted to bring it down to at least the max level, but no higher.

Before you go have the owners manual with you and the page with the overfilling the engine with oil bookmarked.

It is my info that after an oil change, if it is done right, the oil level should be at the full/max line but no higher, and no lower.

BTW, nice looking Cayman.

Pretty sure you may have an aftermarket exhaust, at least tips.

Very clean! What plans do you have for it? GR was one of my color options when I was searching. Looks very good with a red/black theme.

First of all congrats and you surely did get a smoking deal.

Check the oil the old fashioned way - get it hot and put it on level ground and check it with the dip stick while running. If it's just to the top of the mark that's fine if more than that you should siphon some off.

Does the '08 Cayman S have a dipstick? I owned one but I can't recall now.

There is no physical dipstick in a 987.1 Cayman ('06-'08). I'm not sure about 987.2, but I don't think they do either.
The electronic oil level indicator is all we have......

I could be mistaken but the exhaust looks aftermarket.

Well, that's plenty good enough for me but I appear to be in the minority. I love not having to get out of the car to fuss with a dipstick to check the oil level. I have "mastered" the use of the electronic oil level system to the point that I have complete confidence in what it tells me. Not like it took 4 years of college either. I mean just a quick read through the owners manual. In fact I think my first exposure to this feature the salesman walked me through the steps on how to get an oil level reading and I didn't even need to read the manual, though I think I did later just to familiarize myself with this feature of the car.

Sounds like a great deal. How did you find it and did it take a lot of work to get them to that price point?
